Background

The Azure Hill Clan had declined long before Ye Mo's birth. Its members were forced to live between human and Soul Beast society: humans persecuted them and captured their women, while Soul Beasts did not accept them. The clan consequently abandoned hopes of peaceful coexistence with humans and wandered in hiding before settling in a remote but favorable location. 10

The clan lives in a basin enclosed by high mountains, with a guarded passage connecting it to the outside world. Heart Tide Lake, located in the clan's hinterlands, is its sacred site for Martial Soul awakenings. 6

The clan's ancestral prophecy states that, at its lowest point, a purple-haired and purple-eyed man would lead Azure Hill back to its peak. When the future Young Emperor was born with those traits, the Nine-Tailed Fox Statue cried out loudly; the elders named him Young Emperor, meaning the Fox Emperor destined to restore the clan. 3

Society and Customs

Martial Soul Awakening

Azure Hill Clan members awaken their Martial Souls at age eight rather than the continent's usual age of six. The clan considers this practice fully compatible with, or even superior for, cultivation talent. 3

The ceremony takes place on an island in Heart Tide Lake before the massive Nine-Tailed Fox Statue. Candidates place their hands on the statue, which stimulates the Martial Soul within them. 6

The Nine-Tailed Fox Statue

The Nine-Tailed Fox Statue is the clan's central sacred object and spiritual symbol. During Ye Mo's awakening, it released a purple fox that caused the awakened fox Martial Souls of clan members—including Hu Zixin's—to manifest and bow as though acknowledging a monarch. 6

The statue also houses Nine-Tails, who identifies Ye Mo as the clan's Guardian and links his duty to the clan's survival and future. 9

Shared Belief in the Young Emperor

The clan views Ye Mo as both its prophesied savior and its collective hope. Its members gathered en masse to witness his awakening, prayed for his safety when heavenly lightning struck, and later began a cultivation frenzy so they would not hinder him in the future. 4 8 16

Leadership and Notable Members

• Hu Zixin — Clan Leader and a Titled Douluo. Though formally leader, she is described as a figurehead in ceremonial matters; she is Ye Mo's fiancée and one of his principal protectors. 3 6
• Hu Tian — Grand Elder and former Clan Leader. He retains deep authority within the clan, presides over the Young Emperor's awakening ceremony, and supports Ye Mo's training outside the clan. 6 14
• Hu Xue — Second Elder and Hu Lengning's father. He manages the clan's external intelligence group and has extensive experience outside the clan. 14 16
• Hu Lengning — Daughter of the Second Elder and Hu Zixin's longstanding rival. She is a Soul Sage and is protective of Ye Mo. 5 6

Organization and Security

• Shadows — The clan's external intelligence organization, used to monitor developments beyond its territory and help the clan remain concealed. 11 16
  • Its known high-level personnel include Soul Douluo Hu Xue, two Soul Sages, and five Soul Emperors. 16
  • Shadows secretly deployed to Shrek City to watch over Ye Mo after his enrollment at Shrek Academy. 16
• Protective measures for Ye Mo
  • Following the original Young Emperor's earlier escape and serious injury, guards were increased at the clan's passages and stationed outside his room at night. 14
  • Hu Zixin placed a mental imprint on Ye Mo that can alert protectors if he is endangered. 14 16
  • When Ye Mo disappeared in the Star Dou Great Forest, the clan mobilized Shadows to search for him and prepared to notify Hu Zixin. 26

Recovery and the Prophecy

After Ye Mo awakens in the Young Emperor's injured body, Hu Zixin and the elders attempt to save him, while Qing Ling reaffirms her faith that he will lead the clan to greatness. 1 Ye Mo later learns that his body was raised by the clan after both of its parents died and that his title derives from the ancestral prophecy. 3

Martial Soul Awakening

The entire clan assembles at Heart Tide Lake for Ye Mo's ceremony. His Millennial Fox Martial Soul compels the clan's fox Martial Souls to submit, and he subsequently awakens a thunderous cyan sword and a third, Soul Ring-like Martial Soul. 6 8 The clan prays for him during the heavenly-lightning ordeal and embraces his declaration that it will no longer wander. 8 9

Sending the Young Emperor to Shrek

Although Hu Zixin initially refuses to let Ye Mo leave due to the risks to the clan's sole hope, Hu Tian, Hu Xue, and several elders support his request for outside training. Hu Zixin formally approves his enrollment at Shrek Academy. 14 Shadows then accompanies the move to Shrek City in secret. 16

Search in the Star Dou Great Forest

When Ye Mo vanishes amid a powerful presence in the forest, the clan treats the event as a crisis. Its operatives search the area, while Hu Zixin confronts Di Tian after locating Ye Mo within a white halo. 26 27
