Background / History

Rescue and life with Uncle Mu

Three years before her true nature was revealed, Uncle Mu found Qiu Wa as a crying straw doll caught in a whirlpool at Longjingkou. Though he recognized her as a spirit, he could not abandon an inexperienced child in danger. Qiu Wa followed him home, transformed into a doll, and became his granddaughter. 79

She waited for Uncle Mu at the dock after school, happily accepting the copper coins he saved to buy her sweets and clothes. When he was threatened by the Black Dragon Hall, she refused to abandon him despite being used as leverage. 23

Qiu Wa secretly sustained Uncle Mu’s life by transferring her own life force to him. This explained both his recovery from severe injuries and Qiu Wa’s exhaustion afterward. When Fire Barbarians attacked, she chose to hide in his clothes as a blade of grass rather than escape alone, leaving her badly weakened. 79 80

Revelation, decline, and first resurrection

Xu Yi learned that Qiu Wa’s true form was a wooden carving and recognized her as a Ginseng Baby spirit. He resolved that her identity did not matter: “Whether she's a spirit or a human, she's still Qiu Wa.” 79 80

Her depleted condition forced Xu Yi to seek rare Spiritual Soil. Before obtaining it, he used medicinal baths made from precious herbs to prolong her life, keeping her withered wooden form in a padded box. 115 169

Xue Zihan used Spiritual Soil to revive Qiu Wa at the Tianshan Sect. Qiu Wa returned as a plump doll, but her past memories were gone; she knew Xu Yi only as “Uncle Bearded.” Xu Yi nevertheless entrusted her to Xue Zihan’s protection and provided funds, a storage ring, and a sound-transmission bead for her care. 308 309

Restoration in Jingchen Hall

After Qiu Wa again became withered, Xu Yi used the Sheep Fat Jade Pure Bottle to restore her. This revival preserved her memories, including her recognition of Xu Yi and Uncle Mu, though her body remained frail. 1764

Xu Yi and Qiu Wa spent roughly twenty years confined in Jingchen Hall. She explored the Four Scenes Diagram, then learned spells from Xu Yi after growing bored. Her intelligence allowed her to learn quickly, but she remained playful and lacked patience for sustained study. 1764

Qiu Wa’s nature as a rare spiritually awakened plant repeatedly attracted danger. Ghostfire Venerable attempted to capture her alive, forcing her to defend herself and escape underground; she was badly injured before Xu Yi arrived and treated her with Spiritual Soil. 507 508 509

Wei Ding publicly exposed her as a transformed Ginseng Baby, prompting cultivators to covet her as a rare treasure. Qiu Wa later disappeared after telling Yan Zi that someone in the sky seemed to be watching her. Xu Yi learned that talented demons sometimes vanished mysteriously, possibly through selection by the Western Continent or an unknown force. 2423

Decades later, Xu Yi found her trapped by the Illusory Spirit Sect alongside Mu Jin. The sect had taken more than half of Qiu Wa’s plant spirits and exploited her Spiritual Liquid, leaving her weakened and confused.
