Chapters 1636–1660 Vol. 17 Read

Ch. 1636The Demon Race's Six Tiers

Master Jiao Da explained the Demon Race’s six tiers and demonstrated a Demon Testing Stone, which alarmed Xu Yi about his own nature. He then led the gathered cultivators to a deep-sea cavern and raised a vessel for their journey.

  • Master Jiao Da explained that the Demon Race had six tiers divided between green and white demon cores, warned that even third-tier great demons were dangerous, and described how the Star-Moon Emblem and a Demon Testing Stone could reveal demons.
  • Master Jiao Da’s Demon Testing Stone lit up, but the gathered cultivators sensed no demon; Xu Yi took the stone, while He Xuwo criticized him and Master Jiao Da tried to calm them both.
  • The stone’s heat and its earlier warning signs made Xu Yi wonder whether he was human or part demon.
  • At the cultivators’ urging, Master Jiao Da led them through the western exit to a cavern deep beneath the sea.
  • Master Jiao Da opened the cavern floor and raised a large black vessel covered in formation markings and Talisman Patterns.

Ch. 1637Forcing Jiao

Xu Yi threatened Master Jiao Da aboard the Hidden Dragon Ship and forced him to hand over a Demon Core Stone. After Xu Yi nearly damaged the ship, Master Jiao Da calmed the other passengers, while Xu Yi kept the treasure he had come for.

  • Master Jiao Da led Xu Yi and the others aboard the Hidden Dragon Ship, which sped out through the cave entrance.
  • Xu Yi checked the weakening light around the Ice Fire Rabbit, then went to Master Jiao Da's cabin and demanded a Demon Core Stone.
  • When Master Jiao Da refused, Xu Yi subdued him, took his Sumeru Ring, and forced him to swallow a Heart-Devouring Worm.
  • Master Jiao Da threatened revenge, so Xu Yi drew his Dark Obsidian Dagger and struck toward the ship's wall.
  • Fearing Xu Yi would damage the Hidden Dragon Ship, Master Jiao Da handed him a Demon Core Stone and told the other passengers through a jade token that everything was fine.

Ch. 1638Feng Bing

Xu Yi forced Master Jiao Da to hand over the Demon Core Stone, which the Ice Fire Rabbit swallowed, then learned from Yuan Tiansi that Feng Bing might be hostile to him. The Hidden Dragon Ship reached the boundary between shallow and deep sea, and Xu Yi and several others asked Master Jiao Da to open their cabins so they could look outside.

  • Xu Yi took the Demon Core Stone from Master Jiao Da, returned his Sumeru Ring, and asked how to use the stone.
  • The Ice Fire Rabbit swallowed the Demon Core Stone and returned to her jade-white form, so Xu Yi put her in the Spirit Beast Bag.
  • Yuan Tiansi warned Xu Yi that Feng Bing might be plotting against him, based on the Yuan family's ability to sense hostility.
  • Xu Yi dismissed Yuan Tiansi's idea of testing Feng Bing and said they could simply find a chance to kill him.
  • The Hidden Dragon Ship slowed among coral reefs, and Xu Yi read A Comprehensive Analysis of the Nine-Color Problem in his cabin.
  • Master Jiao Da announced that the ship had reached the boundary between deep and shallow sea, and Xu Yi and several others asked to leave their cabins to look outside.

Ch. 1639Testing the Waters

Xu Yi and the other cultivators reached a suspected demon palace beneath the sea, where Master Jiao Da explained how he had found it and urged the group to explore. After most of the experts entered, Feng Bing promised to protect Master Jiao Da, who then went into the cave himself.

  • Xu Yi tested the Spirit Mussel Pearl in the deep sea, but returned to his cabin when another person arrived and he switched to a Water Repelling Pearl.
  • Master Jiao Da brought seventeen Yang Venerate experts to a submerged mountain range and showed them a demon core found by the Sea Ghost Team near a cave he believed was a demon palace.
  • He Xuwo rushed into the cave, and more than ten cultivators followed, while Xu Yi, Master Jiao Da, Yuan Tiansi, Feng Bing, and Zeng Jian stayed behind.
  • Zeng Jian questioned Master Jiao Da's motives, and Master Jiao Da claimed he valued the experts' friendship and support for his position as Sai Dongyang more than treasure.
  • Yuan Tiansi challenged Master Jiao Da to enter the cave, and Feng Bing promised he would be safe, so Master Jiao Da went in first.

Ch. 1640The Demon Servant

Xu Yi, Yuan Tiansi, Feng Bing, and Master Jiao Da entered a strange demon palace and fought waves of giant beasts. After Master Jiao Da disappeared in an explosion, Xu Yi concluded that he had lured them into a trap, and Feng Bing suspected he was a Demon Servant.

  • A bubble enveloped Xu Yi and the others, transporting them into a dry, white palace covered in mysterious mathematical patterns.
  • Master Jiao Da found no sign of He Xuwo and the others, and four giant demon beasts attacked the group.
  • Yuan Tiansi killed the four beasts with his jade-green saber, then Feng Bing froze and shattered eight more beasts.
  • Master Jiao Da proposed that the group study the palace’s symbols, but Xu Yi sealed his diagram pearls with Sword Qi before an explosion wounded Xu Yi, Feng Bing, and Yuan Tiansi.
  • Master Jiao Da vanished as more creatures attacked, and Xu Yi identified the palace trip as a trap set by him.
  • Feng Bing called Master Jiao Da a Demon Servant, and Yuan Tiansi explained what that meant to Xu Yi.

Ch. 1641Swung into the Open

Xu Yi deciphered the Demon Palace’s number-based passages and led Feng Bing and Yuan Tiansi to their separated companions. The group reunited after Feng Bing froze the battlefield, but Zeng Jian exposed Feng Bing’s Saint Race identity.

  • Yuan Tiansi explained that Jiao Da had served the demons as a Demon Servant, and Xu Yi led the group through a hidden passage into a grassland.
  • Xu Yi used patterns in the grass and red star plum blossoms to decipher how the Demon Palace’s passages worked.
  • After testing the passages, Xu Yi found the battlefield where Zeng Jian and four other cultivators were fighting demon beasts.
  • A little red fish leaped toward Xu Yi, and he blocked Zeng Jian’s attack before Feng Bing froze Zeng Jian and the remaining demon beasts.
  • Zeng Jian recovered from the ice and identified Feng Bing as a member of the Saint Race, drawing everyone’s attention to him.

Ch. 1642Appearing

Xu Yi reunited with Little Red Carp and learned that Jiao Da had tricked them into the maze. After Xu Yi summoned a mysterious drop of blood, Jiao Da and two powerful demons appeared, trapping the group inside a defensive formation.

  • Xu Yi led the survivors through a hidden passage back to the Green Grassland and asked them to find a treasure that could let him understand demon speech.
  • Feng Bing gave Xu Yi a Spirit Rhinoceros Bead, allowing him to speak with Little Red Carp, who explained how she had joined the Cracked Lion Demon Cave and entered the maze.
  • Xu Yi put Little Red Carp in his Spirit Beast Bag and told the others that Jiao Da was likely a Demon Servant who had set them up.
  • Xu Yi silently communicated with the group, then produced a drop of blood whose spiritual energy drew cries of astonishment from two figures above.
  • Jiao Da arrived with two burly demons, and one of them absorbed the Heart-Devouring Worms Xu Yi had released.
  • Xu Yi activated the Hidden Falling Divine Peak to enclose everyone in a barrier, but one demon declared that killing its controllers would break the formation.

Ch. 1643Hu Jinghui

Xu Yi used the spirit blood to draw out Hu Jinghui and Lang Du, then trapped the demons inside the Hidden Falling Divine Peak while his formation protected his companions. With both sides at a standoff, Xu Yi asked Hu Jinghui why he had set the trap.

  • Xu Yi realized that someone controlled the demon palace and used the spirit blood to lure its hidden controller out.
  • Hu Jinghui and Lang Du revealed themselves, but Xu Yi reflected Hu Jinghui’s attack with the Great Evolution Array of Rotation.
  • Feng Bing activated the Hidden Falling Divine Peak, trapping Hu Jinghui, Lang Du, Master Jiao Da, and the others while shielding Xu Yi’s group.
  • Hu Jinghui offered to let Xu Yi’s group leave in exchange for the spirit blood, but Xu Yi refused and waited out the confrontation.
  • Hu Jinghui recognized that Xu Yi was buying time and demanded that he name his terms.
  • Xu Yi asked Hu Jinghui why he had set the trap and let humans slaughter the demons.

Ch. 1644Five Kills

Xu Yi proposed a series of fights against Hu Jinghui and Lang Du instead of surrendering the spirit blood. Lang Du killed Zeng Jian and four other Yang Venerables almost instantly, leaving Xu Yi and Feng Bing to face Hu Jinghui.

  • Hu Jinghui offered to let the group leave safely in exchange for the spirit blood, but Xu Yi proposed that they fight instead.
  • Xu Yi arranged for Zeng Jian and four others to fight Lang Du, then planned to face Hu Jinghui with Feng Bing.
  • Lang Du swiftly killed four of the five fighters and devoured their heart's blood with Hu Jinghui.
  • Zeng Jian begged to retreat into the formation, but Lang Du killed him before Xu Yi could intervene.
  • Xu Yi assessed Lang Du's demonic body and speed as the main reasons the five Yang Venerables had died.

Ch. 1645Slaying Lang Du

Xu defeated Lang Du with thirteen strikes of Seven Thousand Swords, then demanded Lang Du’s spoils from Hu Jinghui. Hu Jinghui refused to surrender the demon core and storage treasure, challenging Xu to kill him for them.

  • Lang Du killed Zeng Jian and the other cultivators, collected their Sumeru Rings, and kept them after Hu Jinghui declined them.
  • Hu Jinghui called Xu and Feng Bing out to fight, but Xu sent Feng Bing to face Hu Jinghui and went to fight Lang Du himself.
  • Xu unleashed thirteen strikes of Seven Thousand Swords, destroying Lang Du and revealing a green demon core and a golden storage bead.
  • Hu Jinghui seized Lang Du’s demon core and storage treasure, then told Xu he would have to kill him to claim them.

Ch. 1646Core Corpse

Xu Yi and Feng Bing fought Hu Jinghui, but his Golden Light Howl nearly killed them. Feng Bing’s forbidden Core Corpse appeared to turn the battle, and Xu Yi realized Feng Bing was Kong Cang, an enemy who had repaid Xu Yi’s past help.

  • Xu Yi and Feng Bing attacked Hu Jinghui while Xu Yi tossed him a Sumeru Ring containing spirit blood.
  • Hu Jinghui seized the ring and unleashed his Golden Light Howl, destroying their attacks and badly injuring Xu Yi and Feng Bing.
  • Hu Jinghui charged at Xu Yi for the Demon Blood, but a middle-aged Core Corpse burst from his chest and trapped him in a fireball.
  • Xu Yi recognized the Core Corpse as Feng Bing’s forbidden technique and treated the unconscious Feng Bing with pills.
  • Xu Yi realized Feng Bing was Kong Cang, whom the Third Holy Son had sent to kill him, and learned that Venerable Xia had given him the powerful Core Corpse.

Ch. 1647Battle's End

Kong Cang used the Core Corpse Venerable Xia had given him to save Xu Yi as he fought Hu Jinghui, who revealed his tiger form and attacked Xu Yi. A devastating clash engulfed the Green Grassland, and Xu Yi awoke deep beneath the sea.

  • Venerable Xia gave Kong Cang the Core Corpse despite his anger and guilt toward him.
  • Kong Cang and Hu Jinghui fought, and their spiritual pressure nearly overwhelmed Xu Yi, Jiao Da, and Yuan Tiansi.
  • Hu Jinghui revealed his enormous tiger form, endured Kong Cang's attack, and lunged at Xu Yi.
  • Kong Cang unleashed a vast surge of water as Hu Jinghui's paw threatened Xu Yi, and explosions destroyed the battlefield.
  • Xu Yi woke on a bed of green vines beneath the sea and realized he was surrounded by water rich in spiritual energy.

Ch. 1648Demon Domain

Xu Yi remembered how the Dark Gourd had stopped the blast that killed Hu Jinghui and learned that Little Red Carp had brought his healed body to his cave dwelling. Little Red Carp revealed that he served as a demon general under King Pingding and had risked bringing Xu Yi into demon territory.

  • Xu Yi recalled detonating four Extreme Water Beads in his fight with Hu Jinghui, then seeing the Dark Gourd emit black light and stop the blast.
  • Xu Yi found that his injuries had completely healed and asked Little Red Carp what had happened.
  • Little Red Carp explained that Hu Jinghui had been torn apart, the Core Corpse had cracked, and the Dark Gourd had erased the blast before Xu Yi was brought away.
  • Little Red Carp told Xu Yi that they were in his cave dwelling and that he served King Pingding as a demon general.
  • Xu Yi questioned how Little Red Carp had brought a human into demon territory without being discovered, and Little Red Carp hesitantly began to reveal the truth.

Ch. 1649The Coming Chaos

Xu Yi discovered a demon mark on his chest and learned from A Li that Green Demons had engineered the demon palace massacre to provoke war between humans and demons. He traced their rise to the Western Extreme Ice Sea and realized the Demon Race’s leaders faced pressure to retaliate despite understanding the trap.

  • Xu Yi found a black star-shaped demon mark on his chest after A Li told him to inspect it, though he could not understand how he had become a demon.
  • A Li gave Xu Yi two demon cores, storage rings, and Sumeru Rings recovered from the demon palace battlefield, and identified the white-and-green core as belonging to a Green Demon.
  • A Li explained that Green Demons had emerged after the Western Extreme Ice Sea expanded and had attacked demons near Luanyu Immortal Island, drawing humans into the conflict.
  • Xu Yi concluded that the Green Demons had lured low-level demons into the palace so humans would slaughter them, and that Hu Jinghui had sent evidence of the massacre out to provoke war.
  • Xu Yi realized the Green Demons wanted human support for their challenge to the Sea of Forgetfulness, while the Demon Race’s leaders could not easily restrain their angry followers from demanding revenge.

Ch. 1650Small Things

Xu Yi learned that the green tint in the demon cores was linked to rare Green Demon Cores, and he accepted Little Red Carp as his follower while learning how a Sumeru Seed worked. He chose to remain in the Demon Domain to investigate trading a Green Demon Core and planned to look around before Pingding Demon King’s reception banquet.

  • Little Red Carp explained that Green Demon Cores were rare and highly valued, and Xu Yi accepted one while saying they should treat each other as brothers.
  • Xu Yi gave Little Red Carp Lang Du’s Sumeru Ring as a gift, and Little Red Carp gave Xu Yi a Sumeru Seed.
  • Little Red Carp explained that a Sumeru Seed could hold living creatures but was dangerous because creatures inside could seize control of it, while its holder could kill them at will.
  • Xu Yi decided to stay in the Demon Domain and learn about trading a Green Demon Core before choosing what to do next.
  • Xu Yi asked Little Red Carp to show him around, and Little Red Carp warned that Pingding Demon King was hosting a reception banquet for him that night.

Ch. 1651Demon Record Changes

Xu Yi explored the underwater world with Little Red Carp, then tested how his demon-like bloodline reacted outside the water. He concluded that he was still human and that his changing chest emblems reflected his blood-and-qi output, leaving him wary of exposing his disguise in the Demon Domain.

  • Little Red Carp showed Xu Yi the underwater scenery and offered him Warm Fruits, which he enjoyed.
  • Xu Yi used the Gale Cloak to race toward the surface, leaving Little Red Carp struggling to keep up.
  • Little Red Carp warned Xu Yi against leaving the water, but Xu Yi emerged to test whether he was human or demon.
  • Xu Yi found that the emblem on his chest vanished above water and returned as purple star patterns when he reentered the water.
  • Xu Yi varied his blood and qi and watched the emblem shift from stars to a brief black moon, concluding that it reflected his strength and demonic aura rather than membership in the Demon Race.
  • Xu Yi resolved to monitor the emblem whenever he fought in the Demon Domain so his disguise would not be exposed.

Ch. 1652Handsome Beyond the Demon Realm

Xu Yi escorted Little Red Carp back after a hidden attacker tried to steal her demon-transforming stone, and he realized he could not sense transformed great demons in the waters. At King Flathead’s welcoming banquet, Xu Yi revealed his black star mark and impressed the demon leaders with his appearance and strength.

  • Little Red Carp told Xu Yi she had reached the threshold of transformation, and Xu Yi gave her a demon-transforming stone.
  • A hidden vortex seized the stone, but Xu Yi shattered it with sword qi, rescued the stone, and fled with Little Red Carp; a giant tentacled creature watched him escape.
  • Xu Yi concluded that transformed great demons could evade his spiritual sense, though he kept this discovery from Little Red Carp.
  • King Flathead welcomed Xu Yi at his palace with Xiong Dao, Tu Guan, and Jing Ping, who gathered around to admire his humanlike appearance.
  • When Xiong Dao asked whether Xu Yi was truly at the first rank, Xu Yi displayed the black star-shaped mark on his chest.

Ch. 1653Taking Charge of a Territory

Xu Yi attended King Pingding’s feast and won the post of demon magistrate of Spring Flower Sea. He learned that his new territory bordered a hostile demon cave, then prepared to take command of its staff.

  • Jing Ping, Tu Guan, and Xiong Dao praised Xu Yi’s appearance, and King Pingding asked him to accompany future visits to King Huang’s demon manor.
  • Xu Yi recognized the feast’s singers and dancers as Blue Charms and enjoyed the demons’ forthright company.
  • Little Red Carp told Xu Yi that Pingding Demon King had appointed him demon magistrate of Spring Flower Sea and assigned A Li, three demon generals, and two squads of Sea Patrol Yakshas to him.
  • Little Red Carp explained that Spring Flower Sea was a resource-rich border region troubled by raids from Black Rock Demon Cave, and that Xu Yi had received a two-year tax exemption.
  • Xu Yi wondered whether Little Red Carp had an extraordinary bloodline, while she asked when they would set out to establish his official residence and staff.

Ch. 1654Civilization

Xu Yi established a temporary demon palace in Spring Flower Sea, rewarded his troops, and studied Demon Race classics while in seclusion. After seven days, he found a way to pursue the Demon Core he needed through the Merit Discussion Hall of Yellow Wind Demon Territory.

  • Xu Yi read more than a million characters over seven days and learned about the Merit Discussion Hall's system for exchanging treasures for rewards.
  • Xu Yi set his sights on the Merit Discussion Hall of Yellow Wind Demon Territory to pursue a Demon Core at the True Essence Second Turn.

Ch. 1655On the Eve of Unlocking

Xu Yi arranged to trade a Green Demon Core through the Merit Discussion Hall for the Demon Core Stones he needed to unlock his petrified meridians. He left with five stones and deeper ties to King Pingding’s group, while his origins remained a mystery.

  • Xu Yi realized that his human soul would let him control the process of unlocking his petrified meridians, but he needed enough Demon Core Stones to avoid interrupting it.
  • Xu Yi decided not to seek a second-turn Demon Core and reported his plan to trade a Green Demon Core to King Pingding and his colleagues.
  • Two Fourth-order Great Demons verified Xu Yi’s Green Demon Core and granted his request for five Demon Core Stones, while King Pingding claimed the remaining benefits.
  • Xu Yi gave spirit stones to Xiong Dao, Tu Guan, and Jing Ping before leaving, and King Pingding told the others not to overthink Xu Yi’s mysterious origins.

Ch. 1656A Branching Path

Xu Yi secluded himself on a deserted island and used Demon Core Stones to free his petrified meridians. His unusually abundant blood and qi overwhelmed the process, leaving him swollen and on the verge of bursting as he prepared to gamble on a final attempt.

  • Xu Yi returned to Spring Flower Sea, ordered the remaining demon generals to lie low, reported to King Pingding, and left to find a secluded place for cultivation.
  • Xu Yi found a deserted island, carved out a stone chamber, built defensive and concealment arrays, and rested for five days.
  • Xu Yi swallowed a Demon Core Stone, which freed his Blazing Sun Lung Meridian and sent a flood of blood and qi crashing against his second Dragon Gate.
  • Xu Yi discovered that his meridians required far more Demon Core Stones than expected, and his sixth stone was exhausted while nearly half his meridians remained unopened.
  • Xu Yi's uncontrolled blood and qi filled his body until he looked ready to burst, and he decided to make a final gamble.

Ch. 1657Success

Xu Yi consumed a Demon Core Stone and demon core, broke through his second Dragon Gate, and discovered that his body and perception had grown stronger. After speaking with Elder Bai, he chose to remain in the Demon Domain and headed toward Spring Flower Sea, still unable to use spells while the purple dragon sealed his Qi Sea.

  • Xu Yi consumed the Demon Core Stone and demon core, broke through his second Dragon Gate, and lost consciousness from the transformation.
  • Xu Yi awoke with sharper perception and a greatly strengthened body, testing his defenses against the Dark Obsidian Dagger.
  • Xu Yi saw two halos and a purple dragon sealing his dantian and understood that his Qi Sea would open once the halos erased the dragon.
  • Xu Yi contacted Elder Bai, who allowed him to remain in the Demon Domain and urged him not to neglect number theory.
  • Xu Yi left his cave and headed for Spring Flower Sea, swimming beneath the surface because he still could not use spells.

Ch. 1658The Beginning

Xu Yi confronted the Red Tiger Demon Commander after he tried to claim Spring Flower Sea and Xu Yi’s demon palace. Xu Yi defeated the commander’s generals and seized him, leaving the Red Tiger Demon Commander stunned.

  • Xu Yi returned to Spring Flower Sea and learned that the Red Tiger Demon Commander had demanded his demon palace and threatened his forces.
  • Xu Yi let the Red Tiger Demon Commander take the old palace while secretly building another one ten li away.

  • Xu Yi bound the Red Tiger Demon Commander to a pole and prepared for Black Rock Demon Cave's forces to arrive.
  • King Black Rock confronted Xu Yi, but Xu Yi seized and bound him with a single move.
  • A demon commander contacted Tu Guan, and King Pingding arrived with Tu Guan, Jing Ping, and Xiong Dao before apologizing to King Black Rock.
  • After King Pingding freed him, King Black Rock attacked Xu Yi with his Dark Light Wave, but Xu Yi pierced through it and killed him with a streak of black light.
  • King Pingding and the other demons panicked over the looming consequences, while Xu Yi said he would bear responsibility for King Black Rock's death.

Ch. 1660The Legal System Court

After Xu Yi’s conflict with the Black Rock Demon Cave, the Legal System Court of Yellow Wind Territory summoned Pingding and his subordinates to answer questions. They arrived to find leaders from both Demon Mansions and several presiding judges gathered, with the Dragon Presiding Judge set to hear the case.
