Background
Lina was born to pirate parents who left him in Foosha Village before resuming their voyages; both later died at sea. He was subsequently adopted by Cid, a Foosha Village fishmonger. 107 340
He set sail with Luffy from Foosha Village and initially intended to keep his undead ability hidden while collecting stronger combat templates. During this early period, he regarded his own physical strength as average compared with Luffy, Zoro, and even his undead, reserving his Lich Lord form for emergencies. 21
Lina later formed a relationship with Nami. They have twins, Krista and Karl; when recounting his past to them, Lina confirms that he reached Laugh Tale and found the Greatest Treasure, though he refuses to disclose its nature. 3 107
After retiring from active piracy, he and Nami pursue long-term projects: Nami completes her Grand Line Navigation Guide, while Lina develops a Railway Net intended to connect ninety percent of Grand Line islands within twenty years. 2
Appearance
Lina is a blond-haired man who commonly wears glasses, a blue shirt, and carries cigarettes and a lighter in his breast pocket. 47 72
- Golden-blond hair, often messy after waking. 72
- Glasses that he regularly adjusts or removes when troubled. 47 72
- Frequently smokes, including during combat planning and negotiations. 21 72
- Lich Lord form: azure flames, two short red horns, red markings spreading from the bridge of his nose, and a decaying aura. 40 186
- Full Beast Form: a skeletal body engulfed in blue flames. 398
Personality
Lina is calculating, opportunistic, and unusually pragmatic for a Straw Hat. He uses black markets, seized weapons, stolen resources, and captured enemies as tools for the crew’s survival and growth. His early strategy centered on avoiding attention until he could assemble top-tier undead under his control. 21 32
He is also a provocateur. Lina frequently mocks opponents, manipulates their reactions, and treats “persuasion” as a mixture of trash talk and violence. His defeat of Squard, whom he approached under a false pretense before knocking unconscious, exemplifies this approach. 215
Despite this ruthlessness, Lina is attentive toward his allies. He helps organize the crew’s supplies, offers Robin a place where she can continue seeking Poneglyphs, proposes the crew’s two-year training plan, and reassures Nami when she feels unable to protect the others. 21 72 206
Lina is motivated by the freedom to experience the world rather than a single grand ambition. When Kaido asks what he fights for, Lina describes his life as a game he intends to pursue until death, while naming the title of world’s strongest as his immediate goal. 372
Abilities & Skills
Undead Creation and Template Manipulation
Lina can create, summon, modify, fuse, and command undead based on collected physical information and templates. His undead can perform mundane labor, fight independently, wield copied abilities, and serve as weapons or defensive constructs. 19 21 40
- Summons disposable skeletons and weaker undead for cleaning, supply management, scouting, and routine labor. 21
- Can preserve traits from acquired templates, such as Fish-Man swimming ability, Arlong’s regenerating teeth, and Giant-derived physical power. 26 29 40
- Can merge compatible templates to create specialized undead, including elemental mages and sword-focused combatants. 67 178 314
- Uses spatial rifts to deploy undead, weapons, shields, and beasts without conventional storage. 26 136 216
- Early attempts to compress Giant undead into human size caused them to explode, demonstrating a limit to how much power his current control could contain. 40
- Undead cannot use Conqueror’s Haki, forcing Lina to develop his own body and Haki alongside them. 240

- Fire manipulation — Launches fire snakes, flame swallows, and high-output fire attacks derived from Ace’s template. 75 80 137
- Lightning manipulation — Fires concentrated bolts and lightning serpent attacks; also uses large-scale thunder-based attacks. 137 399
- Tremor-Tremor Fruit — Produces destructive vibrations through punches and weapons, breaks defenses, and can prevent catastrophic damage such as a tsunami. 309 314 330
- Dark-Dark and Ice-Ice Fruit abilities — Uses darkness and ice in high-level combat, including freezing and overpowering Akainu. 417 426
- Teleportation — Can instantly reposition out of attacks, including Sengoku’s Buddha Shockwave. 417

Close-Quarters Combat
Though he originally avoided direct combat, Lina becomes an exceptionally strong hand-to-hand fighter.
- Defeats Bellamy, Old Sai, Cannonballidio, and other Dressrosa competitors with single punches. 88 296
- Uses named impact techniques including Breaking Charge Punch, Breaking Strike: Blast, Charge Fist: Shatter, and Breaking Kill Charge Punch: Collapse. 246 247 272
- Endures and defeats Urouge in a prolonged slugfest, then overwhelms Yamato with a vibration-infused axe. 186 285
- Matches Kaido in direct combat before defeating him through relentless undead-form assaults. 369 373
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Ouroboros Ring — Enhances sand control and enables durable, precision-formed sand shields and prisms. 137
- Bone Chain Sword — A regenerating fang-based undead weapon that can function as a sword, whip, spinning shield, or spiked defensive disk. 26 90
- Battle axe — Lina’s principal heavy weapon in later battles; can be empowered with tremor-based vibration attacks. 285 369
