Year 29 of Konoha, August
Inside an ordinary three-story house
"I transmigrated again? Konoha? Naruto?"
A delicate, cherubic child stared in disbelief at the person in the mirror.
That was right. He wasn't from this world, but was a transmigrator.
And this was his second transmigration. In his first life, he'd been an ordinary person. He'd watched Naruto, but so much time had passed in the life between that he'd forgotten most of it. Besides, the series hadn't even finished back then.
In his second life, he'd transmigrated to the world of Dragon Clan.
By chance, he'd awakened a B-rank Bloodline and somehow ended up at Kaser Academy.
The academy had Naruto manga, too, but Yayoi hadn't reread them after gaining supernatural powers.
And now, this was his third life.
So much time had passed that he could barely remember the details or plot of Naruto anymore.
He was in the world of Naruto, in Konoha, as a six-year-old boy named Uesugi Yayoi.
From the memories of this body, he learned that his parents had died on a mission in this life. That had earned him the "honor" of receiving three separate compensation payments, as well as inheriting his parents' large house.
Thanks to his predecessor's strong physique and habit of exercising, his memories included plenty of villagers' conversations.
That was just enough to make up for what he didn't know about life in Konoha.
All kinds of "superhumans" who could fly through the sky and burrow underground, spit fireballs, or summon water out of thin air—they were called Ninja.
The source of Ninja's supernatural abilities was an energy called "chakra."
"Chakra, Ninja, Konoha, Hokage..."
Sure enough, this was the world of Naruto.
"I know the general plot, but could the current timeline be before the Second Ninja World War?"
Uesugi Yayoi sifted through his memories and learned that it was currently Year 29 of Konoha.
"War seems to be coming. I hope the village will be all right."
Uesugi Yayoi vaguely remembered some of the horrors of the Second Ninja World War.
And the Second Ninja World War lasted a long time. He'd probably have a hard time escaping it himself.
He wasn't just imagining things. The atmosphere in the village had grown increasingly tense lately, and more Ninja had been stationed at the borders.
As he walked through the village, he kept hearing unsettling news.
For example, once you became a Ninja, you had to go to the battlefield and kill the enemy.
The age for becoming a Ninja was twelve, and that was the upper limit. Most Genin became Ninja at around ten, then went off to the battlefield.
Damn, he hadn't expected the world of Naruto to be this dangerous.
When he'd watched it before, Naruto had just graduated normally and gone on missions.
Getting caught up in a war was unbelievably unlucky.
Uesugi Yayoi was speechless. This was even more terrifying than the Execution Department at Kaser Academy.
Uesugi Yayoi calmed his churning emotions. This wasn't something a six-year-old should have to worry about.
"I start school tomorrow. I'm already old enough to go to school..."
Thinking about tomorrow's enrollment ceremony gave Uesugi Yayoi a headache.
As the child of Ninja, Uesugi Yayoi was naturally eligible to attend the Ninja Academy.
But if graduation meant going straight to the battlefield, was this system for training cannon fodder really a good idea?
"Two lives already, and I can't even get a Golden Finger? I'd settle for an Alchemical Weapon."
Uesugi Yayoi complained.
In his previous life, he'd gone to the snowy mountains with a group from the Execution Department to excavate a site. When they pried open the tomb owner's coffin, they found a lifelike "person" inside, clutching a bone marked with strange symbols.
He didn't know what creature the bone had come from. As for why he thought it wasn't a fossil, Uesugi Yayoi didn't believe a bloodstained bone could be a fossil.
He suspected it was Dragon Bone. After all, this was the world of Dragon Clan, and nothing was more powerful than the Dragon Clan.
Then, the moment they opened the coffin, the creature inside awoke. A brilliant light burst out, and after that, he opened his eyes and transmigrated.
"Forget it. I'll live as long as I can before the war starts. Every extra year is a year earned. I'll try using my Word Spirits from my previous life first."
The battlefield was a meat grinder. Right now, Uesugi Yayoi could only hope his Word Spirits from his previous life still worked, giving him one more means of staying alive.
He'd already died once, but he still wanted to live. At the very least, he wanted to see what this world had to offer.
He couldn't accept the horrifying thought of going to war as a teenager. This was a village, after all.
And Konoha was the strongest village. If even they had to send children to war, where was the older generation?
Back when he'd watched the Will of Fire, Uesugi Yayoi remembered being moved.
Now that he thought about it, what a joke.
Did they have any sense of passing on their traditions? Even the terrorist organizations of his previous life would've offered them a cigarette.
But no matter what Uesugi Yayoi thought, there was nothing he could do to change things. He could only accept it, because now he was a person of the Ninja World too.
He slowly recited the familiar Word Spirit from his previous life, engraved in his blood.
"Word Spirit—Wind King Eye."
The caster controlled a large amount of air to form a small storm around himself. It could draw tons of oxygen from the surrounding space, while the caster stood at the eye of the storm.
It was a powerful Word Spirit. In his previous life, it had saved him during missions.
The weather was clear and sunny. The setting sun crossed the sky, and light slanted through the transparent glass window onto Uesugi Yayoi's face. In the end, nothing happened.
"As expected, Dragon Script needs to resonate with the bloodline."
Uesugi Yayoi lowered his head helplessly, feeling a little disappointed.
The Ninja World... Staying alive would be a long, hard road.
But perhaps because he'd recited the Dragon Script, Uesugi Koshu suddenly felt dizzy.
Suddenly, a dazzling light filled his entire world.
Ancient Dragon Script rang out, and dragons seemed to dance.
Red light shrouded the world. The half-rotten World Tree burned with raging flames, while the black Dragon Emperor gnawed away every last one of its roots.
Tens of thousands of dragons spread their wings, as if blotting out the sky.
On the scorched earth, Uesugi Yayoi felt as though he was suffocating, until a ball of light entered his body.
The ruined world shattered, and endless darkness swallowed everything.
"It hurts. It hurts so much."
Uesugi Yayoi felt as if the blood throughout his body were boiling, and every bone in his body were being smashed to pieces, one hammer blow at a time.
It was as if he were in a gigantic furnace, but he wasn't Son Goku. He couldn't refine Fiery Golden Eyes.
All he could feel was boundless agony and his boiling blood.
It felt as if a century had passed. The pain faded, and his boiling blood settled. Uesugi Yayoi was drenched in scorching sweat.
He slowly got up from the ground, limped to the door, pushed it open, and collapsed over the threshold, enjoying the summer breeze.
He understood now. He understood everything.
That bone had definitely come from Dragon Clan.
Whose bone it was, he didn't know yet.
Uesugi Yayoi struggled to turn his neck and looked at the faint gray scale in his palm, deep in thought.
The bloodstains on that unknown bone had fused with him and awakened his bloodline.
He was probably at the level of a Fourth Generation now, about the same as his A-rank Bloodline in his previous life. His bloodline seemed to have considerable potential, though.
The classifications of Dragon Clan had naturally appeared in his mind the moment the ball of light fused with him.
But that was all the basic information he had. It hadn't even explained the source of his bloodline.
The unknown creature's bone had turned into a mass of information and bloodstains, which he'd absorbed. That was also where his earlier information had come from.
The bone had also been engraved with obscure symbols, which had been automatically inscribed deep in Uesugi Yayoi's memories when it entered his body.
The information engraved in his memories was a text called the Bloodline Refinement Technique.
"Suppress yourself. Sink your spirit into the earth. Let your divinity rise to the sky, bask in the sun's radiance, and burn the Primal Fire."
The Bloodline Refinement Technique was also known as Blood Rage, and it was pronounced Path to Godhood.
It was a secret art that let Mixed Blood gradually grow into Dragon Clan.
In the Dragon Clan novel, the passages about Blood Rage and purifying Dragon Clan bloodlines had left a deep impression on Uesugi Yayoi.
It had four stages. First level Blood Rage: Release Lion's Heart and begin Dragon Transformation.
Second level Blood Rage: Release Dragon's Heart and undergo further Dragon Transformation.
Third level Blood Rage: Release Dragon King's Heart. You'd be only one step away from becoming a Death Warrior, and your entire body's functions would be enhanced.
Fourth level Blood Rage: Complete Dragon Transformation, with Dragon Clan consciousness completely overpowering human consciousness.
Blood Rage—the secret art for refining one's bloodline—was the symbols engraved on the Dragon Bone.
