Stussy rolled her eyes inwardly. This guy might have a handsome face, but he was definitely up to no good.
"Why would I run? I don't have gold dust in my body."
Crocodile looked disdainful, gazing confidently into the pitch-black distance. "One day, when I beat him, I'll become his boss and make him my underling."
Crocodile wouldn't tell Stussy that at first, he'd actually wanted to kill that guy. Unfortunately, he wasn't strong enough to do it.
Over time, he'd gradually discovered how exhilarating it was to act arrogant and flaunt himself. As that guy put it, it was all about showing off.
Put more poetically, it was about experiencing the true meaning of life and giving yourself a second lease on it.

That guy wasn't wrong, either. Deep down, he was brimming with inexplicable confidence, arrogance, domineering cruelty, and selfishness. If he didn't bring those qualities out, he wouldn't be his true self.
At first, he'd been half-convinced, half-doubtful. But gradually, Crocodile realized that guy understood him!
Even better than he understood himself.
So, at some point, his goal had shifted from killing that man to defeating him—and making him his underling.
He'd make that guy experience the frustration for himself.
That was Crocodile's dream for now: defeat that guy and become his boss.
