Yamazaki Akiji's friend, Iwata Daijiro's residence, was a Western-style mansion.
The villa had a sizable yard with a cobblestone path, a green lawn, flower beds, trees, a pond, and statues, among other things. In short, this villa was undoubtedly a thoroughly luxurious mansion by Japanese standards.
It was still only afternoon; the banquet time in the evening had not yet arrived.
Yamazaki Akiji took Shu Yunwen to Iwata Daijiro's bedroom to meet the owner of the villa.
Iwata Daijiro was an elderly man in his early sixties, slender, confined to a wheelchair, with one leg in a cast.
According to Yamazaki Akiji's explanation, Iwata Daijiro's leg had been injured in an accident and had not healed well, so he remained in a wheelchair. Furthermore, Yamazaki Akiji mentioned that strange "ding-dong" sounds had recently been heard in Iwata Daijiro's villa. The servants had investigated but found nothing, which had made Iwata somewhat fearful.
This was the main reason why his good friend Yamazaki Akiji had requested a Talisman for Iwata Daijiro.
Unlike Yamazaki Akiji, Iwata Daijiro did not trust so-called Exorcists. After a few perfunctory pleasantries, he claimed to have other matters to attend to and told Yamazaki Akiji and Shu Yunwen to make themselves at home.
After the two left Iwata's bedroom, Yamazaki Akiji immediately apologized to Shu Yunwen, "Shu-san, I am truly very sorry. Iwata can be quite rude. Please do not be angry."
Shu Yunwen shook his head indifferently and then said, "Please do not mind it, Yamazaki-san. Also, if you have some free time, would you accompany me around the room? Perhaps we might discover something."
"Of course," Yamazaki agreed.
"Thank you for your trouble," Shu Yunwen said gratefully, while inwardly complaining about how overly complicated Japanese etiquette was.
Muttering to himself, Shu Yunwen chanted a Sorcerous Curse. A few seconds later, he cast a Sorcery, and a hazy mist seemed to cover his eyes as he looked around.
Ghost Sorcery, Ghost Eye!
This sorcery, like "Bad Luck Magnet," was an introductory skill, considered a trick of a Sorcerer. Its primary ability was to see ghosts, spirits, and the like.
Among Ghost Sorcery, "Ghost Eye" was considered one of the least useful techniques for a Sorcerer.
Because once a Ghost Sorcerer reached the beginner level, they would naturally possess Yin-Yang Eyes, which could be opened and closed at will without consuming Sorcerous Power. There was no need to specifically cast "Ghost Eye" on oneself. Of course, for ordinary people, "Ghost Eye" was equivalent to temporarily activating Yin-Yang Eyes, making it extraordinarily effective.
Shu Yunwen had not been practicing Ghost Sorcery for long, and his body was essentially no different from an ordinary person's. Without Yin-Yang Eyes, he could only cast "Ghost Eye" on himself for observation.
Yamazaki Akiji led the way, and the two toured the villa. They did find a nearly dissipated wild cat spirit, but nothing else.
The nearly dissipated wild cat spirit posed no threat; even a normal person could blow it away. Naturally, it could not cause trouble in the villa. Therefore, after much thought, Shu Yunwen concluded that this incident was not caused by ghosts but by human factors. As for why it couldn't be detected... that was none of his business.
In the lounge, Yamazaki Akiji's attitude became more respectful: "Shu-san, did you discover anything?"
A thin layer of mist still clung to Shu Yunwen's eyes, making Yamazaki Akiji find him much more mysterious.
"No," Shu Yunwen shook his head. "The strange occurrences in this villa likely have nothing to do with 'strange things.' Perhaps someone accidentally made some noise..."
"Is that so..." Yamazaki Akiji was disappointed.
Seeing Yamazaki Akiji's reaction, Shu Yunwen couldn't help but roll his eyes. Is this guy crazy? Isn't it better if there are no ghosts than if there are? If there were a powerful vengeful spirit or an evil spirit in this villa, I might not be able to handle it...
After a brief conversation, Yamazaki Akiji took his leave. Shu Yunwen rested in his room until evening, when the banquet finally began.
At the banquet, Shu Yunwen ate a little and then some people approached him to chat.
"Hello, Keqin-sama. I never expected you to be here tonight." This was a beautiful middle-aged woman, her attitude extremely respectful.
Hearing this, Shu Yunwen knew they had mistaken him for his cheap father, Shu Keqin, again.
"I'm sorry, Madam. My name is Shu Yunwen. My father is Shu Keqin, but he is already dead."
"Is that so?" The middle-aged woman was disappointed and surprised. "But your face..."
Shu Yunwen could only explain, "It's because I practice exorcism cultivation techniques that I appear somewhat aged. I will recover later."
After sending one person away, another approached, still with a respectful attitude: "Hello, Keqin-sama. I never expected to meet you here. Some people rumored that you were already dead..."
"My father is indeed dead. My name is Shu Yunwen. Please take care of me." Shu Yunwen explained again, "The reason my face looks so aged is due to practicing the family's exorcism cultivation techniques. I will recover later."
"Is that so? Then I apologize for my rudeness."
In a short while, Shu Yunwen had sent away six people. Before leaving, each of them left Shu Yunwen a business card. These were likely part of the connections Shu Keqin had left behind.
"Shu-san, were those people your father's friends?" Yamazaki Akiji emerged from some unknown corner.
Shu Yunwen nodded. "Oh, it's Mr. Yamazaki. They all mistook me for my father."
"That's understandable," Yamazaki Akiji said with a smile. "After all, Shu-san, your current appearance does indeed resemble Keqin-sama's."
After chatting with Shu Yunwen for a few minutes, Yamazaki Akiji suddenly looked at his watch. "I'm very sorry, Shu-san, but I have some other matters to attend to now, so please excuse me."
"Mr. Yamazaki, you are too kind. Please feel free to go."
After Yamazaki Akiji left, Shu Yunwen continued to stay in the banquet hall for a while longer, then left the hall and asked a servant to prepare a room, instructing them not to disturb him until Yamazaki Akiji left. Well, he still had some homework assigned by his teachers to finish.
The miserable student life.
Just as he finished his homework, Shu Yunwen heard the sound of police sirens outside his room.
Looking out the window, Shu Yunwen saw several people getting out of police cars outside the villa and hurrying inside.
Shu Yunwen blinked, opened his room door, and waved to a servant in the hallway outside his room. "Hello, may I ask what happened? I saw police cars from my window..."
"Ah? Hello, guest." The servant quickly bowed. "Yes, yes, something has happened. A guest has apparently been murdered."
"Someone's dead?" Shu Yunwen's eyes lit up at the news. "Quick, take me to see."
A dead person was like a windfall to him! And it seemed he had been murdered.
The maid shook her head and refused, "No, you can't. The police ordered that no one is allowed near the scene before them."
Right, that was indeed Uncle Cop's most common request.
To preserve the scene and evidence!
"Heh..." Shu Yunwen shook his head helplessly and chanted another Sorcerous Curse, activating his Ghost Eye to search the villa himself.
About two minutes later, Shu Yunwen successfully found the deceased's room, which was already cordoned off by police.
Not far away, Iwata Daijiro, sitting in a wheelchair, wore an expression of utter grief and anger. "Inspector Megure, please, you must catch the killer and avenge my good friend Yamazaki!"
Yamazaki?
Shu Yunwen paused for a moment and asked a bystander nearby, "Hello, excuse me, do you know who was killed?"
"Ah! I heard it was the General Manager of Hachiryu Bank, Mr. Yamazaki Akiji..."
The victim was really Yamazaki Akiji?
"Make way! Make way! Let me in! Let me in!" At this moment, a voice came from outside. A few seconds later, a young man in blue squeezed through the crowd. When he turned and saw Shu Yunwen, he was surprised. "Shu-san? What, what are you doing here?"
"Why can't I be here? Student Kudo? Uh..."
Shu Yunwen said with a smile, then suddenly froze, as if he had thought of something—
Wait! This scene felt wrong!
Death God Kudo Shinichi, the eternally supporting Inspector Megure, the crippled Mr. Iwata Daijiro in a wheelchair, and the murdered Yamazaki Akiji, who was the General Manager of Hachiryu Bank...
What the hell? This felt just like the case at the beginning of Detective Conan?
The killer seemed to be...
Shu Yunwen's gaze shifted, landing on Iwata Daijiro, who was still in his wheelchair, looking heartbroken.
Hmm...
This guy's acting was pretty good!
PS: Yamazaki's identity revealed.
That's right, this guy was the one killed at the beginning, the one who didn't even have a photo of his remains
