Eva's voice was a little too loud. It was clear that the question-and-answer exchange had given her a major insight.
"Was it her boyfriend, Wen? Did he do that to Salma? Why would he do that?"
The next three questions came out smoothly, one after another.
"Why do you think that?"
Unfortunately, the line of thought that had just opened up ran straight into the question mark Expert Fu tossed back at her.
...Weren't you the one who brought him up?
At that moment, it was clear that Eva wasn't the only one thinking that.
Although they couldn't come up with any reason just then, they'd been discussing a tragedy, and then he'd suddenly asked whether they knew someone. Anyone would have thought along those lines, wouldn't they?
Unfortunately, though Mr. Wolf wasn't putting on any airs, his every move still carried too much authority. No one actually dared to make that sort of snarky remark.
"Salma is very outgoing... and popular, especially lately."
Even Eva, who'd been caught off guard, managed to squeeze her brain hard enough to come up with an actual theory.
"I've met her boyfriend. On one hand, I don't really understand how the two of them got together. On the other, a lot of people at school have a crush on Salma.
"So, in that sense, it's possible they had a falling-out."
Carefully weighing her words, Eva finally explained her reasoning.
"But there are a few problems with that. First, I've been here the whole time today, and I haven't seen Wen come by or heard any arguments.
"Then, no matter what, I don't think the two of them would have had such a violent confrontation."
