The Kabuki District was especially grim in the dead of night. Dim yellow neon lights cast eerie shadows through the narrow alleys. There were few people on the streets, only a scattered handful of suspicious figures slipping through the darkness.
Nathan Hawke's group moved silently through the cramped alleys, warily watching their surroundings. This was Night City's poorest and most dangerous district, where countless criminals and lawbreakers operated. Yet such an environment was nothing unfamiliar to Nathan Hawke and his companions. They had long since grown used to dangerous places.
Faint music and hushed conversations could be heard in Kabuki District's alleys, as though deals were taking place somewhere nearby. Beneath the neon lights, all manner of goods filled the shops, while some vendors called out to passing pedestrians.
Wesker remained alert at all times. He suddenly stopped and signaled for the others to halt.
"Someone's following us," Wesker said quietly.
Suddenly, a figure sprang out of the darkness with a knife and attacked. Wesker reacted swiftly, easily dodging the strike before kicking at the attacker.
The attacker was a young man dressed in ragged clothes, his gaze fanatical and vicious. A mad desire shone in his eyes.
"Hand over your money!" the man shouted, then lunged at them again.
Wesker stopped holding back. His fist smashed into the man's cheek, sending him flying. Yet the man showed no sign of retreating. He immediately scrambled back up, his eyes bloodshot as he launched another attack. During the fight, Wesker noticed that the man's body was covered in cyberware, some of it looking crudely made.
