The students' noisy morning recitation reached Gu Panyan's ears. She glanced at the tone-deaf "singer" sitting by the window, then slightly raised her head and looked at the stern face outside the window, above the "singer."

"There are always many geniuses in this world whom people can't understand." Wang Ge lay on the desk lazily. "And your deskmate here is one of them."

"Oh, please." Gu Panyan snorted. "If you're a genius, how come you can't even beat Chen Yanxi?"

Because Chen Yanxi is a monster... Wang Ge muttered inwardly, but stubbornly said aloud, "It's just because I don't want to study. If I put in even a little effort, surpassing her would be a piece of cake, all right?"

Gu Panyan raised her brows. "Then surpass her and let me see."

It sounded as though he was asking for their opinion, but they had been caught sleeping and were already feeling guilty. On top of that, Gu Panyan still had an earbud in her ear, with music playing through it, making her even guiltier. They did not dare argue, so they could only do as the English teacher said.

"No objections, right? Then it's settled." The English teacher gave them one last look. Before leaving, he tossed out one final sentence: "You two will stand for morning reading. Wake yourselves up, so you don't fall asleep again later."

"Ah, I can't sleep anymore." After the English teacher left, Wang Ge whispered regretfully.

"You already slept all morning." Gu Panyan could not help mocking him.

"One morning isn't nearly enough." Wang Ge took it for granted. "I was planning to sleep through another class later."

"What were you doing last night? Were you really that tired?" Gu Panyan asked, puzzled.

"Watching short videos." Wang Ge sighed. "I clearly felt like I hadn't watched them for long, but when I checked the time, it was already three in the morning..."

Gu Panyan gave him a thumbs-up while secretly taking out her earbud.

"Did you memorize the English essay?" Wang Ge turned and asked her.

"No." She shook her head.

"Then why aren't you memorizing it right now?" Wang Ge sounded somewhat schadenfreude-like. "If you can't recite it, you'll have to copy it ten times."

"I can't even read it aloud properly." Gu Panyan curled her lips.

"Take it slowly. There's still plenty of time before the second class this afternoon." Wang Ge consoled her.

"You've memorized it?" Gu Panyan glanced at Wang Ge.

"I finished it a long time ago." Wang Ge answered frankly. "This stuff is very simple. You just need to remember the Chinese meaning, remember a few key words and phrases, and then translate the Chinese into English."

...Easy for you to say. Gu Panyan was disdainful of Wang Ge's remarks and could not be bothered to respond further. Her gaze gradually went blank.

"You're not memorizing it? You want to copy it ten times?"

"I can teach you." Wang Ge spoke up.

"You teach me?"

This was the first step of Wang Ge's plan: first, he would make Gu Panyan build a certain amount of confidence in herself and in studying. He had to let her understand that as long as she was willing to work hard, she would definitely gain something; as long as she was willing to study, she would definitely be able to learn.

When a person clearly knew that their efforts would inevitably yield results and could directly feel how much they had gained, they would definitely work desperately hard without needing anyone else to urge them.
