Background / History

Before Temujin's arrival, the Azure Wolf Tribe was a major frontier tribe commanded by Chief Bater. It possessed more than ten thousand mounted archers and was one of four rival powers around Yan Yun, alongside the Red Tiger, Flying Eagle, and Snow Leopard Tribes. Facing drought and Gaoyuan County Town's weakened Azure Qi, Bater planned to seize the county town for resources. 154 159 164 174

Zhang Ming entered the tribe under the identity of Temujin, with Chaolumen arranging his background as a wandering warrior from the Yuan Tribe. Bater accepted him after Temujin demonstrated overwhelming strength, but privately conspired with his son Barut to eliminate the newcomer during the siege of Gaoyuan. 159 160

The tribe marched on Gaoyuan County Town with more than ten thousand bow-bearing warriors. Its shaman apprentices weakened the city’s Azure Qi with Sha Qi, enabling the army to breach the walls. Temujin served as Vanguard and became renowned among the warriors for his performance in the assault. 164 167 168 169

After the victory banquet, Temujin killed Bater and Barut and claimed the chieftainship. The acting shamans declined to intervene, while Second Chieftain Batumen ultimately recognized Temujin as leader. Temujin then secured Batumen, Chaolumen, and the six shaman apprentices as supporters. 170 171

Under Temujin, the tribe expelled undisciplined soldiers from Gaoyuan County Town and imposed order after the conquest. It later destroyed the Red Tiger Tribe, defeated the Snow Leopard and Flying Eagle Tribes, and absorbed all three into a unified New Azure Wolf Tribe. The resulting polity controlled Gao Yuan’s four county towns and more than 500,000 people. 175 184 186 192

The expanded tribe launched a northern campaign against the Grassland Royal Court. Batumen led 30,000 cavalry against the Royal Court’s vastly larger force, while the Imperial Guard Iron Cavalry became War Knights and broke the enemy army. The Azure Wolf Tribe replaced the old Royal Court as the dominant power of the Northern Grasslands. 200 206 207

In less than five years, the force that began as the Azure Wolf Tribe became the basis of Temujin Zhang Ming’s New Dynasty, controlling Yan Yun and part of the Northern Grasslands. 246

Leadership

The tribe traditionally divided authority between its chief and shaman:

• Chief — commanded the tribe’s military forces and political affairs. Bater held this role for over a decade before Temujin seized it. 159 161 170
• Shaman — controlled faith, rituals, and the tribe’s supernatural inheritance; the position served as the tribe’s spiritual authority. 161
• Second Chieftain — Batumen commanded 3,000 troops before becoming Temujin’s key supporter and field commander. 170 171 201

Camp

The original encampment functioned as both settlement and military camp. It was defended by closely packed wooden stakes and rawhide ropes, with tents scattered across the grassland around a large central command tent. 159

The chief’s tent contained a permanent fire pit, animal-hide beds, prey pelts and totems, and neatly arranged weapons and armor. 159

Military

Mounted Archers and Cavalry

The tribe’s original strength centered on mounted, bow-wielding warriors. Before the Gaoyuan campaign, it could field more than ten thousand bow-bearing fighters; after absorbing the three rival tribes and gaining county-town support, it expanded to 50,000 such warriors and nearly 100,000 auxiliary troops. 159 200

Temujin used the Evil Energy Berserk Technique to enhance Azure Wolf soldiers in major engagements.

The tribe’s decisive reserve force was the Imperial Guard Iron Cavalry, supported by Old Daoist Sun.

Governance and Development

After taking Gaoyuan County Town, Temujin restrained the tribe’s soldiers and removed them from the city, restoring enough order for residents to resume trade and daily life. 175

Following the unification of the four major tribes and four county towns, the Azure Wolf administration distributed land, set taxes, organized official administration, and cleared wrongful cases. Its conduct contrasted sharply with the plundering associated with the Red Tiger, Snow Leopard, and Flying Eagle Tribes. 191 192

The tribe also relied on merchant guild caravans during its grassland campaigns. The caravans delivered supplies, transported loot, and processed captured livestock, goods, and people from conquered tribes. 201
