Ch. 701Assassination Target
Key plot points and events
- The Primordial Dragon Clan is teleported into an ambush at Three-Hump Mountain, where tens of thousands of Stele Demons— including several Eighth-Order demons—attack immediately.
- Gu He quickly organizes his warriors and launches a fierce counterattack. Though his clan’s fighters are formidable, they suffer heavy casualties against the overwhelming numbers. Gu He unleashes his Bloodline authority, briefly freezing weaker demons and giving his forces an opening.
- The Eternal Ice Silkworm Clan, led by Viruth, is also attacked, but faces a smaller, weaker force. Its warriors gain control of the battle with ice-based abilities.
- Kessler secretly wants Qin Tian dead, both because Qin could threaten the Orcs and because Kessler resents the costly silk he had to provide under their earlier bargain. He nevertheless contacts Qin and hopes he will kill Broden, a rival Kessler wants removed.
- Qin Tian kills Broden with a sudden, nearly invisible shot that destroys his head before he can defend himself.
- Viruth recognizes Qin Tian and attacks as Qin descends, but Qin vanishes using spatial power. Kessler is then abruptly seized and pulled into a dark spatial opening. The chapter ends with Viruth furious and the others stunned.
Character developments
- Gu He proves a powerful and decisive battlefield commander, but the deaths of his elite subordinates weigh heavily on him. His grief fuels a surge of Dragon Bloodline fury.
- Kessler reveals his duplicity: he has cooperated with Qin Tian while secretly hoping Qin will die, and he uses Qin to eliminate Broden. His apparent triumph becomes uncertain when he is abducted.
- Qin Tian demonstrates precision and tactical cunning, killing Broden from concealment before confronting Viruth—and escaping the immediate counterattack through spatial teleportation.
- Viruth shifts from composed battlefield supervisor to openly enraged leader after Broden’s death and Kessler’s disappearance.
- Broden’s death establishes that even a powerful, danger-sensitive seventh-rank warrior can be killed instantly by an unexpected attack.
Significant themes
- Betrayal and self-interest: Kessler’s alliance with Qin is transactional, and his plans serve both clan interests and personal grudges.
- The cost of war: Gu He’s forces win ground but pay in lives, underscoring the human cost of battles shaped by political rivalries.
- Power versus preparation: Strength alone cannot prevent Broden’s death; surprise and timing prove decisive.
- Uncertainty and shifting control: Qin’s sudden appearance, escape, and the unexplained abduction leave the battlefield’s true balance unclear.
