At Shaoshi Mountain, inside a secluded Zen monastery, an ancient bronze bell rang by itself. Its deep, resonant tones echoed through the mountains. They weren't harsh, and the chimes could be faintly heard from dozens of miles away.
No one knew how long it had existed. Its surface was covered in verdigris, and it looked ancient and weathered, as if telling of the rise and fall of ages.
A crowd of monks, young and old, stared in shock, chanting sutras. Some couldn't make sense of the miraculous phenomenon.
Hidden nearby, Bai Yang and Qing He watched without revealing themselves.
"Could that ancient bell be a magical artifact?" Qing He asked, uncertain.
Bai Yang nodded. "Perhaps it was once a very important ceremonial vessel. Countless people's Psychic Power has blessed it, and now, nourished by primordial energy, it has undergone a miraculous transformation and become a magical artifact. It barely qualifies as a first-grade one."
"A first-grade magical artifact isn't weak in this world. Its power may be limited, but it affects an entire area. Used well, it could be formidable. Too bad the people here don't know how to cultivate and can't activate it. For now, it's nothing but a decoration." Qing He looked at the bell.
This kind of area-wide artifact based on sound waves had limited destructive power on its own, but used amid a crowd, one sweep of sound could take down a whole group. Its power couldn't be judged by ordinary standards. Qing He practiced the Martial Path of musical tones, so she understood the bell well.
