History

Supreme Harmony Qi is the defining energy of the second cultivation stage, Soothing Harmony Foundation Establishment. A cultivator must harmonize yin and yang, the Five Elements, soul and spirit, and emptiness and reality to master a trace of it; this establishes the Dao Foundation and permits the opening of meridians. 3

Chen Qing first formed it through his dream body's breakthrough. It descended from his Niwan Palace into the Yellow Court Palace, cleansed his marrow and meridians, expelled black impurities, and opened previously blocked passages. His breakthrough also produced a mountain-and-sea manifestation that reflected the fusion of his Great Mountain Heavenly Art with the sea-based insights he had gained. 7

A thread of this Qi subsequently fed back into Chen Qing's real body. Although he could direct it through his meridians and use it as an emergency trump card, the initial trace was “rootless”: each use diminished it, and only further dream entries could restore it. 8
