"Hikari? Do you mean Uchiha Hikari, Master?"

"Yes."

"Of course I remember her. How could I ever forget Hikari?"

Uchiha Hikari's beautiful profile, stubborn and lonely, immediately came to mind. So did the bitterness and reluctance he'd felt when they said their final goodbyes.

His heartstrings stirred again.

"Wait, Master. How do you know her name is Hikari? And didn't we witness her sacrifice together back then?"

"Do you remember how many times you've fallen for my Genjutsu?"

"Huh? That's cheating, Master! You can't just peek into those memories!!" Boruto was mortified. He wished he could find a crack in the ground to hide in.

To put it simply,

Uchiha Hikari had been a powerful human weapon from the Warring States Period, sealed away through the combined efforts of the Uchiha and Senju Clans. Later, Murotsu, a rogue ninja from Amegakure, broke the seal and tried to use her power to destroy the world. Unfortunately, Boruto and the others stopped and defeated him, but Hikari died of her injuries.

Later, in order to save Hikari, Boruto had used Toneri's power to travel back in time. He rescued Hikari from her imprisonment by the Uchiha Clan and gave her a free and bright future before returning to the present.

But because he had altered the past, he'd forgotten all his original memories of Hikari...

"I wasn't peeking. It was for another reason. You shouldn't have been able to remember those events, right?"
