The night was deep.
Ian neither made a fuss nor intervened when the Faceless Ones broke in. His mind was still occupied with the Twilight Hermit Society and the conspiracy behind the temple.
Because of that.
The Faceless Ones' operation went smoothly.
Now that they were much closer, Ian could see the creatures more clearly. They were terrifying-looking beings; to put it nicely, they possessed an imposing presence even without anger.
It was shrouded from head to toe in a pitch-black robe, its body tall and strange. Most unsettling of all—its face had no facial features, only a smooth, mirror-like black void, as though it had swallowed every ray of light. It moved without a sound, not even making footsteps, floating over the ground like a ghost.
Holding his breath, Ian watched as the Faceless One stopped before a house. Drawn clearly on the doorframe was the hexagram protection sigil Kalan had made.

The Faceless One still encountered no obstruction.
Like a grayish white bolt of lightning, it crashed straight through the house's wooden window. The sound of shattering glass was especially piercing in the silent night, and Ian could even hear a child screaming inside.
"Where are your talismans?" Ian grabbed Kam by the collar. "Why aren't they working?"
Kam's face looked deathly pale beneath the moonlight.
"Th-that's an officially recognized enforcer!"
He stammered out an explanation. "If we interfere with law enforcement, wouldn't that make us an illegal organization?"
Ian opened his mouth, only to find himself speechless for a moment.
The logic was outrageously absurd, yet damnably reasonable—the Twilight Hermit Society, as an underground organization, truly did not dare openly oppose official forces.
"Your warding barrier can't even stop something like that? Then what's the point of drawing these runes?" He looked suspiciously
