Ch. 602611: The chess game that deceived the world 4

Ian and Grindelwald ate breakfast in a French town while Grindelwald recalled Aurora’s ordinary childhood, then went to a hill to wait for Voldemort. Elsewhere, Dumbledore met Nicolas Flamel in his hidden safe house, where Flamel showed him a box of mysterious fragments.

  • Grindelwald told Ian that Aurora had grown up in the town as the daughter of a baker and a church organist.
  • Ian asked whether the person using Grindelwald’s body was the professor he knew, but Grindelwald only spoke of his gift as a Seer.
  • Ian and Grindelwald reflected on how fortunate the Muggles were to have forgotten the previous night’s battle, then left the café and waited for Voldemort on a hill.
  • Dumbledore told Nicolas Flamel that Ian was their only hope, though he could not be sure Ian could be relied on.
  • Flamel handed Dumbledore an iron box filled with strange fragments, and Dumbledore admitted he did not know what they were.

Ch. 603612: The chess game that deceived the world 5

Nicolas LeMay urged Dumbledore to stop waiting for others to solve everything and to rest, sharing a quiet evening with him in Provence. He showed Dumbledore his workshop and inventions, explaining that he kept them secret because the world was not ready for them.

  • LeMay told Dumbledore that being deceived by an alchemist had taught him to improve the Colour-Change Charm, and advised him to be patient rather than wait for Voldemort or a child to solve everything.
  • LeMay prepared dinner and tea with Dumbledore, then encouraged him to rest after years of protecting others.
  • LeMay took Dumbledore into his workshop and showed him a highly accurate mechanical timepiece and a magical crystal light.
  • Dumbledore said LeMay's inventions could change the world, but LeMay refused to release them because people were not ready to use them responsibly.
  • Dumbledore agreed with LeMay's judgment as they looked out at the night sky.

Ch. 604613: The chess game that deceived the world 6

  • LeMay showed Dumbledore a device that could generate energy indefinitely in theory, explaining that he feared Muggles would turn it into a weapon.
  • LeMay shared several other inventions with Dumbledore, including a weather predictor, a direction-finding device, a light-writing pen, a soothing sound box, and a light-storing coin.
  • Dumbledore and LeMay discussed Voldemort’s fear of death and desire for control before LeMay went to bed.
  • Fawkes arrived with a message about what had happened in the town, and Dumbledore read it before dissolving the golden words.
  • Dumbledore decided to return, thanked LeMay, and departed with Fawkes as LeMay watched and told him to save the world.

Ch. 605614: The chess game that deceived the world 7

Dumbledore returned to Hogwarts and revealed to the professors that Grindelwald's Fiendfyre had left him without magic, but he planned to conceal this from Voldemort and buy time for a counterattack. A Hogwarts student secretly sent Voldemort a report hinting at Dumbledore's weakness, and Voldemort celebrated the news.

  • Dumbledore returned to Hogwarts and reassured Fawkes that he was safe, though exhausted.
  • Dumbledore told McGonagall and the assembled professors that he had lost all his magic and ordered them to keep the truth secret while maintaining the appearance that he was merely gravely injured.
  • Dumbledore urged the professors to keep Hogwarts running normally, hoping the deception would keep Voldemort cautious while Ian and Grindelwald prepared.
  • Two boys at Hogwarts decided to inform Voldemort about Dumbledore's condition, and one sent an owl carrying a secret message.
  • Voldemort read the report at his manor and smiled, pleased that Dumbledore could no longer hold on.

Ch. 606615: The chess game that deceived the world 8

  • Voldemort questioned whether reports of Dumbledore’s weakness were a trap, then ordered his Horcrux Clone to attack Azkaban and free the imprisoned Death Eaters as a test.
  • Ministry workers rebuilt Azkaban while a small Auror force guarded the vulnerable prison.
  • Deep Space-corrupted wizards approached under cover of black smoke, and Bellatrix’s stitched monster killed the two Aurors watching the sea.
  • Death Eaters emerged across the ruins and killed construction wizards and Aurors, overwhelming the defenders.
  • Bellatrix ordered the stitched monster to leave one young Auror alive for the master and kill everyone else.

Ch. 607616: That World-Shaking Deception 9

Death Eaters and freed prisoners overwhelmed the Aurors defending Azkaban, while Fawkes appeared to be the only sign of Dumbledore’s help. Hogwarts professors arrived to reinforce the retreating Aurors, and Flitwick began fighting the attackers.

Ch. 608Before dawn 1

Hogwarts professors and Aurors fought the Death Eaters and prisoners at Azkaban, but the stitched monster overwhelmed them and drove them back toward the tower. As the professors and Fawkes were about to fall, a raven dived from the clouds.

  • Sprout, Flitwick, and Slughorn helped the professors suppress the Death Eaters while prisoners rushed them in large numbers.
  • The stitched monster attacked the professors, resisted their spells, and wounded several of them before Flitwick ordered a retreat to the tower.
  • Fawkes attacked the monster from the air as Bellatrix taunted Dumbledore, while Shacklebolt urged the defenders to hold on.
  • The stitched monster prepared to deliver a final blow as the exhausted defenders struggled to protect Fawkes.
  • A strange cry rang across Azkaban, and everyone looked up as a raven dived from the clouds.

Ch. 609618: Before dawn 2

Ian Prince arrived at the ruins in the form of a raven, transformed into a boy, and destroyed Bellatrix's stitched monster. After the Death Eaters and prisoners fled, he left the survivors uncertain who he was, then told Kingsley Shacklebolt that he had come to deal with his own problem, not to help them.

  • Ian Prince transformed from a raven into a boy and confronted the stitched monster, which recognized him as the Raven.
  • Ian blocked the monster's attacks and explained that Deep Space's power did not work on him before reducing the monster to ash.
  • The Death Eaters and prisoners fled, leaving the Hogwarts professors and Aurors among the survivors.
  • Flitwick told Shacklebolt that Ian was Dumbledore's helper, though he did not know more about him.
  • Shacklebolt caught up with Ian and said the Ministry would record his help, but Ian replied that he had come to deal with his own problem.

  • Shacklebolt and Flitwick recognized Ian as a Hogwarts student whom Dumbledore had called special.
  • Voldemort arrived across the sea, and Ian accused him of sending a clone instead of his original body.
  • Voldemort revealed the Mirror of Banishment, which Ian recognized as the counterfeit he had made.
  • Ian repeatedly fired silver-white rays at the mirror, letting Voldemort believe its absorption made it stronger.
  • Voldemort unleashed the mirror's stored energy, drew Ian inside, and celebrated as the Aurors and professors watched.

Ch. 611620: Before dawn 4

Voldemort reached Hogwarts intending to kill Dumbledore, but discovered that Dumbledore had faked his weakness and that the Mirror was a decoy. Dumbledore, Grindelwald, and Ian revealed themselves as three Legends surrounding Voldemort, who chose to fight rather than surrender.

  • Voldemort arrived at Hogwarts and confronted Dumbledore, accusing him of mistrusting and fearing him.

  • Ian drew Voldemort’s escaping power into himself and purified it with his authority of the Old Ones.
  • Ian spread a silvery-white barrier across the sky to conceal the world from Deep Space.
  • Ian told Dumbledore and Grindelwald about his era, then activated the repaired Time Machine and departed.
