Xiao Yu led Zi Ji, Gu Yue, and Li Jinsheng into a circular room.
The room was still built from futuristic metal structures. A ring of massive Soul Tool screens hung on the walls, displaying flickering scenes of a forest.
"Is this the room for entering the Spirit Ascension Platform?" Li Jinsheng curiously looked around before, under the staff member's guidance, lying down inside a coffin-like metal pod.
Gu Yue did not resist much either and lay down in another metal pod.
Before the hatch closed, the staff member solemnly reminded them, "Inside the Spirit Ascension Platform, you can do anything, but the core objective is survival—do your best to stay alive. The longer you survive, the more benefits you will gain during the process."
"If you encounter danger you cannot handle, immediately press the Distress Signal Device on your arm and leave the Spirit Ascension Platform. Understood?"
"Understood!" Gu Yue and Li Jinsheng answered in unison.
The staff member nodded and closed the hatches. The two metal pods slowly slid into the wall.
Li Jinsheng's vision went dark. When he opened his eyes again, he found himself in a lush forest.
He glanced at the back of his hand, where a metal device had appeared, bearing an eye-catching red button.
This was the Distress Signal Device.
Rising to his feet and sensing this world, Li Jinsheng felt dense vitality rushing toward him, and his pupils involuntarily widened.
The life force around him seemed to sense his arrival. Strands of vitality were unconsciously drawn toward him and flowed into his body.
His gaze swept over the surroundings. Sensing several moving life auras within the forest, his hand unconsciously brushed the Soul Tool at his waist and drew out a Fire Axe.
Watching this from outside the Spirit Ascension Platform, Xiao Yu's eyes widened. He felt more and more that something was off.
He looked at the other side of the surveillance feed. Gu Yue's position was not far from Li Jinsheng's, roughly a hundred meters away.
There seemed to have been a slight error during data transmission.
Gu Yue strolled through the dense forest, her gaze somewhat dazed. The lush woods and fresh air around her gave her a feeling as though she had been transported into another lifetime.
What a realistic world.
She headed toward Li Jinsheng, and along the way, she encountered several Soul Beasts. None of them were powerful, however, and she killed them with her overwhelming control over the elements.
After being defeated, the Soul Beasts would give her faint fluctuations of light and shadow.
Each time she sensed those lights, the surprise in Gu Yue's eyes deepened. Increasing the age of a Soul Ring was something only gods had once been able to do.
Just then, terrifying chopping sounds came from ahead.
She quickly stepped forward and witnessed a bloody scene.
Li Jinsheng was swinging a huge axe without the slightest hesitation, hacking at a Century Empty Spirit Demonic Leopard. Yet it did not resist in the slightest, as if it could not feel pain at all.
That was right. The Empty Spirit Demonic Leopard had been completely deprived of its five senses. It had lost control of its body and was now nothing more than fish on a chopping block, at his mercy.
One axe, then another, then another. At last, the Empty Spirit Demonic Leopard's head separated from its body, leaving this despairing world behind.
Gu Yue's mind was full of question marks. This was supposed to be someone with no combat ability?!
And how had he made the Empty Spirit Demonic Leopard lose all ability to resist?!
Li Jinsheng felt the spiritual energy entering his body. After confirming that the Empty Spirit Demonic Leopard was truly dead, he turned his gaze toward Gu Yue, who had approached from the side.
"Wasn't that a little cruel?" Gu Yue could not help asking as she looked at the Fire Axe in the boy's hand.
"Ha..." Li Jinsheng let out a long sigh. "For some reason, any creature that gets attacked feels pain, fear, or reveals an opening. But my enemies don't."
The boy wiped the blood from his cheek and explained the reason to Gu Yue.
"They don't feel pain?" Gu Yue felt there might be something wrong with this kid's mind. How could there possibly be creatures that did not feel pain?
"That's right, they don't feel pain. If this Soul Beast could feel pain, it would've woken up long ago after getting chopped like that!" Li Jinsheng did not mention a single word about why it could not feel pain.
Gu Yue's dark eyes fixed tightly on Li Jinsheng. After a moment, once she had confirmed that there really was something wrong with the kid's head, she said, "Fine! Follow me. I'll protect you, little support, during this trip into the Spirit Ascension Platform! Don't get lost!"
Li Jinsheng did not refuse. He truly had no offensive means, so he merely slung the axe over his shoulder and followed Gu Yue deeper into the forest.
The two walked one ahead of the other as dappled light filtered through the forest and fell across them. Suddenly, the chirping insects in the woods were disrupted by a sharp cry.
It was the cry of Wind Baboons, carrying from the distance like a whistle.
The grass ahead rustled, and a group of over twenty Wind Baboons appeared before them. Their faces were bluish, their fangs bared, and their eyes gleamed with vicious light.
Seeing this, Gu Yue stopped. She lightly tapped her left foot against the ground, and an earthen wall rose from the soil, blocking the Wind Baboons charging forward one after another.
The instant the wall rose, Wind Blades began spinning around her fingertips and flew out like life-reaping scythes.
Seeing this, Li Jinsheng seriously suspected that this girl had held back an entire Pacific Ocean's worth in the original story!
Then he looked at his palm and could not help muttering, "Why don't I have any offensive abilities? Since I have an Element Martial Soul, I should be able to figure something out myself, right? I'm free during class anyway."
His gaze shifted to the Wind Baboons vaulting over and circling around the wall. The First Soul Ring beneath his feet flashed, and dozens of streaks of light shot forth!
First Soul Skill, Five Senses Deprivation: Touch Deprivation!
The Wind Baboons charging at the front were instantly stripped of all sense of touch. Completely unable to feel the changes in their own limbs, they tumbled to the ground.
Before they could react, the Fire Axe flew directly at them. A flash of white light passed, and the heads of three Decade Wind Baboons were cleanly severed.
Blood sprayed across the scene like three fountains, droplets splashing onto Li Jinsheng's cheeks.
Gu Yue glanced sideways at him and found this support Soul Master growing increasingly absurd. Who used a life attribute for control skills? Weren't they all supposed to focus on healing and recovery?
Without meddling further, he summoned flames in his right hand and condensed them into a long whip, sweeping a semicircle through the woods.
The fire whip burst into several fiery serpents across the Wind Baboons' bodies, igniting their fur. Yet not one cried out in pain, and not one retreated in fear.
Seeing their fur charred and the stench of burnt flesh rising from them, Gu Yue began to doubt. Did these Soul Beasts truly feel no pain? Could everything Li Jinsheng had said be true?
Did all the Soul Beasts on this Spirit Ascension Platform really lack pain receptors?!
Suddenly, five Wind Baboons dove down from above, reaching for Gu Yue.
Before Li Jinsheng could buff her, Gu Yue cleaved all five Decade Wind Baboons in half with a single Light Blade. Their upper bodies flew away while their lower halves swayed as they fell.
Li Jinsheng froze for a moment, thinking, Dismemberment by light! It's over! Gu Yue knows how to dismember things now—doesn't that make me Yapool?!
