Linley tensed his entire body, maintaining his original posture without moving as the cold wind of Hogsmeade blew over him.
After about ten minutes, the sound of unhurried footsteps drifted over.
"Cassirachi! More than forty years have passed since Grindelwald was defeated by Dumbledore. Have you still not given up?"
Professor Green's voice rang out, carrying a trace of icy coldness.
Cassirachi was evidently the surname of the black-robed wizard. Judging from Professor Green's words, Cassirachi had likely been one of Grindelwald's subordinates during the years when Grindelwald ran rampant.
Cassirachi spoke, his voice hoarse and filled with hatred. "I have hunted you for more than forty years, Green. You wounded the great Master with that damned Muggle weapon. That was an insult to the Master! As one of the Acolytes, I will surely kill you!"
Professor Green merely chuckled upon hearing that. "'Master'? 'Acolytes'? Cassirachi, you are nothing more than a stray dog personally expelled from the Acolytes by Grindelwald. What right do you have to say such things?!"
Professor Green's faintly mocking words drove Cassirachi even madder. "Expelled?! If those three damned Muggles had not suddenly appeared while I was hunting you down and died to my Fiendfyre Curse, why would the Master have struck my name from the ranks?! Green, the hatred between us is irreconcilable. Today, we settle the score!"
Professor Green drew his Wand and struck first without hesitation, casting a silent Disarming Charm. Yet he sighed as he spoke, "So be it. I am now a professor at Hogwarts. To prevent your madness from implicating my students, you must die here today!"
Cassirachi waved his Wand, casting a silent Shield Charm. A flash of blue light collided with Professor Green's Disarming Charm, and the two spells canceled each other out as they burst apart.
"Bombarda!"
Professor Green swung his Wand again, firing a yellow beam that flickered with dangerous energy.
As he cast the Explosion Charm, Professor Green lightly waved his left hand. With a silent Wandless Magic spell, a grayish-white beam shot through the air from Cassirachi's blind spot at an extremely tricky angle, attacking him in tandem with the Explosion Charm.
That grayish-white beam was the Confringo, its incantation "Confringo." Its effect was like a weaker version of the Explosion Charm: it could blast apart solid obstacles, but could not cause a secondary, large-scale explosion.
Although Cassirachi had not seen Professor Green's small movement, years of combat experience told him that Professor Green's attack could not possibly be so simple.
"Protego Maxima!"
Cassirachi waved his Wand, using immense magic power to shield the area within a one-meter radius around himself.
Sure enough, the two spells exploded at the edge of his Protego Maxima barrier. The violent blasts even dimmed its glow considerably.
"Diffindo!"
Cassirachi rapidly flicked the Wand in his hand. Though he had only spoken the incantation once, dozens of Cutting Charms tore through the air, shooting toward Professor Green with the force of thunderbolts.
This was an exceptionally advanced casting technique. Rapidly flicking the Wand interrupted the continuous flow of magic power within Cassirachi's body, allowing magic power to enter the Wand only in intermittent bursts. Cassirachi's exceptional mastery of the Cutting Charm then allowed each small portion of magic power to become a weakened Cutting Charm.
Thus, what had originally been a single Cutting Charm became dozens of slightly weaker ones, drastically increasing the spell's danger.
"Oppugno!"
Professor Green first used a silent Confringo to shatter a stone on the ground, then used Oppugno to launch the countless stone fragments into the air, where they met the dozens of gray beams.
The stone fragments struck the beams in the air with perfect accuracy, and a series of explosions rang out overhead.
Professor Green had actually intercepted every Cutting Charm with less expenditure.
However, Cassirachi's attack frequency seemed to be growing ever faster.
Unlike the ordinary magic used by Professor Green, Cassirachi's spells were primarily Dark Arts. When the two sides were roughly equal in strength, the power of Dark Arts was clearly superior.
As an alchemist, Professor Green's attainments in the Dark Arts naturally could not compare to those of a battle-hardened Acolyte, even if Cassirachi was an expelled one.
Cassirachi flung out a mass of black-red flames. The fire devoured everything it could consume and continued to grow, eventually taking the forms of flaming giant serpents and fire hounds as it charged wildly toward Professor Green.
Fiendfyre at this level could never be extinguished by a single Finite Incantatem. Faced with such a predicament, Professor Green had no choice but to use the alchemy he excelled at most.
To truly employ alchemy on the battlefield was likely something only a powerful alchemist like Professor Green could accomplish.
Professor Green raised his Wand and waved it. One Alchemy Rune after another was branded into the air without the aid of an engraving knife, or even any object to serve as a medium.
The Alchemy Runes glowed with brilliant golden light, linked together by a golden thread of magic power to form an Alchemy Formation.
The Alchemy Formation took shape in an instant. As Professor Green poured magic power into it, countless beams burst forth from the formation, bombarding the Fiendfyre creatures lunging toward him.
Golden light poured down from the sky like a meteor shower, suppressing the flaming creations so completely that they could not even raise their heads.
Watching this scene from afar, as though a god had descended upon the world, Linley could not help but feel his heart stir with longing.
This was probably the pinnacle of a Rune Alchemist!
That was what Linley thought to himself.
On the battlefield, Cassirachi endured the rain of golden light without showing the slightest intention of retreating.
Magic power continuously poured out from Cassirachi as masses of Fiendfyre were born one after another, surging relentlessly toward Professor Green.
At the same time, Professor Green had completed the inscription of his fifth Alchemy Formation.
Five Alchemy Formations surrounded Professor Green. Like a laser matrix, they unleashed countless golden beams in a furious barrage, bombarding the charging flaming creations.
The battle had reached a stalemate. Cassirachi's Fiendfyre Curse and Professor Green's Alchemy Formations seemed to have formed a delicate balance, with neither side able to overcome the other.
Watching from nearby, Linley grew anxious. He wanted to help Professor Green, but he also knew that at his current level of magic, stepping in would only make him cannon fodder.
After all, even the aftershock of their battle would be enough to blast Linley into bits!
