"Do you know the Glacier Spell?" Irina asked.

Hermione lowered her head in thought for a moment. At last, she found the relevant information on the Glacier Spell amid the mountain of spells in her mind. She immediately recited it as though answering a teacher's question. "I know it. The Glacier Spell's incantation is Glacius, and its effect is to freeze any creature or object it hits!"

Irina was not surprised that Hermione knew the spell. After all, in the original story's second year, Hermione had used the Glacier Spell to freeze and capture the Cornish Pixies released by that useless professor, Lockhart.

To prove that she really knew the spell, Hermione drew her Wand and pointed it at a vase not far away. "Glacius!"

A beam of icy blue light shot out, striking the vase in an instant and freezing it into an ice sculpture.

After doing this, Hermione first looked at Irina smugly, wearing an expression that plainly begged for praise.

But Hermione quickly seemed to remember something. She stuck out her tongue and said, "Um... Irina, I don't think I know how to unfreeze the vase. If I use Incendio, the vase will definitely shatter..."

Irina merely smiled faintly at her, then waved her Wand. The frozen vase immediately returned to normal.

After mastering Silent Spellcasting for the Glacier Spell, Irina found that her understanding of the spell had deepened greatly. Even without using the universal counterspell, Finite Incantatem, she could undo the Glacier Spell's effects through her own understanding of the spell itself.

Seeing this, Hermione's eyes sparkled. "Wow, Irina, how did you do that?!"

As she spoke, Hermione walked over to Irina's bed and sat beside her.

Irina instinctively leaned against Hermione and gently rubbed her chin against Hermione's shoulder.

"Hey! What are you doing?"

Feeling the strange sensation on her shoulder, as well as Irina resting against her, Hermione's little face reddened slightly.

Irina wore a strange smile. "What is it, Hermione? Come on, let me see! I'll teach you how to reverse the Glacier Spell. Pay close attention to the path of your magic!"

As she spoke, Irina wrapped an arm around Hermione's waist and grasped the wrist of Hermione's wand-holding right hand.

First-year Hermione was small and slender, fitting perfectly within Irina's grasp.

Irina took a satisfied deep breath, then softly recited the incantation.

Hermione felt as though the magic within her body had come under Irina's control and flowed into her Wand. Another icy blue beam shot out and froze the vase.

Immediately afterward, Irina recited the incantation again. This time, however, the syllables seemed slightly different, and the beam from Hermione's Wand appeared somewhat darker. It struck the vase and restored it to its original state.

Held in Irina's arms, Hermione was still a little flushed, but her thirst for magical knowledge temporarily made her ignore this intimate contact with the friend she had only just met.

She repeated the counter-incantation Irina had taught her and began trying to freeze and restore the vase over and over.

Before long, the exceptionally clever girl had mastered this casting technique. She happily showed it off to Irina.

Irina did not demonstrate her Silent Spellcasting, lest she awaken Hermione's competitive spirit. She merely clapped softly to congratulate Hermione.

Just then, Irina and Hermione's other two roommates returned.

They had no choice but to stop practicing magic, turn off the lights, and go to sleep.

The next day, in the Slytherin dormitory.

Linley got up early once again. The first class that morning was Professor Quirrell's Defense Against the Dark Arts class. Although Quirrell's lectures were all stammering and utterly useless, Linley still decided to be well-rested in case Voldemort lurking behind Quirrell's head caused trouble.

Therefore, after engraving only the energy source and rune hub the previous night, he had gone to bed early.

Of course, he had also completed the alchemical design for the Desert Eagle's main body and its bullets. Next, he only needed to carry out the alchemy step by step.

The first class of the morning soon began. When Linley arrived at the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom, Quirrell was standing at the podium with a textbook in hand.

Linley opened his textbook and sat down, pretending to be an ordinary, well-behaved student.

Meanwhile, the Gryffindor first-years had Transfiguration class as their first lesson that morning.

Hermione dragged the bleary-eyed Irina out of bed early and brought her to the Transfiguration classroom to preview the lesson.

It made Irina so sleepy that she wanted to lie facedown on the desk and catch up on sleep.

She had thought that once she came to Hogwarts, where everyone was so content to slack off, she would be able to take it easy. Yet under Hermione's dragging, she still had to endure an eight-in-the-morning class.

As class drew closer, Irina rubbed her eyes and raised her head. Just then, she saw a tabby cat run in through the classroom door, leap onto the podium, and sit there as it surveyed the young wizards who had already arrived.

Most of the young wizards who came early were fond of studying, so they had little interest in the suddenly appearing tabby cat. They merely glanced at it before returning to what they were doing.

But Irina's eyes lit up at the sight. A snowflake-like gleam seemed to flash through her icy blue eyes.

Under Hermione's puzzled gaze, Irina sprang to her feet, then ran and skipped over to the podium, beaming at the tabby cat perched on it.

Amid everyone's strange looks, Irina casually shoved both hands into her pockets, seemingly searching for something.

Soon, her eyes brightened, and she pulled out a large handful of catnip.

"Kitty! Kitty! Catnip!"

While rubbing the tabby cat's head, Irina stuffed the catnip toward its chest.

Irina's bold action left the tabby cat frozen in place. After a while, however, the physical reaction caused by the catnip made it sneeze several times in a row.

Realizing something was wrong, the tabby cat suddenly leaped forward and transformed back into Professor McGonagall.

"Irina! How dare you—how dare you bring catnip into the Transfiguration classroom?!"

The fury on Professor McGonagall's face was nearly tangible.

Irina deliberately took a frightened step back.

The panic on her face was naturally an act.

After all, having read the original story so thoroughly, how could she not know that the tabby cat was Professor McGonagall's Animagus form?!

But who could possibly refuse to offer a handful of catnip to their dear head of house who could turn into a kitty?!

"Professor, I didn't do it on purpose..."

Irina put on a frightened expression and carefully apologized to Professor McGonagall.

Seeing this, Professor McGonagall was somewhat speechless, but she could only let Irina return to her seat.

After all, ignorance was no crime, and it had been Professor McGonagall herself who entered the classroom in her Animagus form. Naturally, these young wizards could not have known her identity.

But in Professor McGonagall's blind spot, Irina secretly gave Hermione a little V-sign after returning to her seat.
