Erik could have used more powerful moves, but this was a sparring match, so he couldn't. A Devil Fruit could serve as one's primary means of attack, but in a battle between truly powerful fighters, its abilities played more of a supporting role.
At first, Erik was completely suppressed. Gradually, he learned how to fight, how to dodge, and how to attack. In a short time, he went from being overwhelmed to holding his own. His progress was rapid, and at last, he seized an opening and slammed a punch into Norman's chest, landing a direct hit that sent him flying.
Norman climbed to his feet. The battle was over. He was pleased, brushed the dust off himself, and looked at Erik. "From now on, you're the captain of the Erik Pirates. Norman belongs to the past. Erik is Norman's new beginning. Carry my share with you, and sail the seas together."
Erik was stunned, and the others were just as surprised. This was something none of them had expected. But the older generals quickly recovered, smiles appearing on their faces. This was a passing of the torch: Norman's will being passed on to Erik.
Norman slowly walked over to the young generals and bowed. "I'm counting on you to look after Erik." They were a little overwhelmed by the gesture. They, too, would be sailing with Erik.
"But what about the kingdom?" Hufu asked, worried.
"Don't worry. We old-timers are still here." White smiled. "Just don't come back unless you've made a name for yourself. Hahaha!"
From that day
