Michael and Daphne's son, little Vito, had congenital epilepsy. Since surgery during infancy carried risks, the doctors recommended operating on Vito when he was around two years old.
The doctor made a tiny opening in Vito's skull, which had not yet naturally fused. It was still considered minimally invasive surgery, but it broke Daphne's heart.
Fortunately, the operation went smoothly. After several months of careful recovery, the doctors announced that it had been a success. Little Vito's epilepsy had been completely cured.
Tests showed no abnormalities in Vito's brain structure, but Daphne still found it amazing that a child like Vito could connect to the external brain, VESSEL, along with Michael.
So when Michael nervously asked Daphne whether she would agree to using the brain tissue removed from Vito during surgery for an experiment, she agreed without hesitation.
