The flamethrower was undoubtedly more devastating than energy weapons in the narrow underground tunnel, with its continuous, wide-area flames making the very air scorching hot.
Kyle frowned, retreating to a safe distance and using the recessed tunnel wall as cover to block the flames.
If it were an energy weapon, he could have blocked the laser directly with the Vibranium Bracer. However, the flamethrower's widespread fire limited the bracer's defensive capabilities.
Even more deadly was the Venom on Kyle's body, which had transformed into a battle suit.
Venom, which feared neither bullets nor lasers (bullets were easily defended against, and lasers could be healed with its liquid form), was now conveying an instinctual fear to its host, Kyle, under the threat of the intense heat.
"Alright, just hold on a little longer."
Kyle verbally soothed Venom and was about to throw his sword to take out the guards. The moment he raised his hand to charge, a circular object whizzed past from behind him.
The disc-shaped shield accurately hit the head of the guard wielding the flamethrower, heavily injuring and knocking him unconscious, before swiftly returning in an arc.
"Adamantium Shield?"
Kyle quickly looked back, seeing a tall young man rush forward and catch the shield, which resembled a disc. It was Steve himself, who had rushed to catch up.
"Steve, weren't you supposed to be holding off and clearing out the guards?" Kyle asked in surprise.
Steve replied firmly, "The soldiers will handle the guards. How could I let you deal with Schmidt alone?"
"Whatever you say. Then let's have a competition this time to see who takes down the Hydra leader first..."
Before Kyle could finish speaking, he dashed towards the end of the tunnel.
"No problem... Hey, don't go back on your word!" Steve shouted, keeping pace with Kyle without slowing down.
One after another, they quickly passed through the last section of the underground tunnel.
Emerging from the tunnel, they were met with a vast underground base plaza, along with hundreds of armed guards wielding energy weapons.
"This is troublesome," Kyle coolly declared, raising his longsword, while Steve resolutely raised his shield. The two fighting side-by-side showed no fear facing a hundred guards. However, if they were delayed any longer, the Hydra leader, Red Skull, would escape.
'Bang! Bang! Bang!'
Just then, a large number of American soldiers armed with rifles poured out from underground tunnels in different directions of the underground plaza. Upon seeing the armed guards, they quickly opened fire.
Leading one of the troops was Fury, wearing an eyepatch. He charged at the forefront of his team, waving to Kyle with a smile, "Kyle, do you need reinforcements?"
Kyle let out a sigh of relief and nodded, saying, "You're here at the perfect time. As expected, you're the most reliable!"
As if hearing his words, a woman leading troops from another tunnel let out a cold snort, "Who isn't?"
Steve looked at the alluring woman and said playfully, "Carter, you're almost late."
"I am late," Kyle corrected him, causing Carter's beautiful eyes to glare at him again.
"Hahaha, just waiting for me, right?" A familiar, roguish voice sounded from behind, only half a beat slower than everyone else.
As car headlights illuminated the area, a car with a distinct sense of craftsmanship drove over and stopped in front of Kyle and the others. Howard, in the driver's seat, waved to them with his usual gentlemanly demeanor.
"What are you doing here from the Science and Strategy Department's logistics? And you even drove Schmidt's car into the base," Kyle raised an eyebrow in surprise.
Howard smiled and said, "This is the final decisive battle of the European theater, of course I had to come. After all, we're a team!"
We? A team?
Kyle was stunned for a moment. He glanced at Fury, Carter, and Steve around him, and finally, a subtle curve formed at the corner of his lips.
Yes, at some point, they had become a team, an invincible elite combat team.
"Now is not the time for chatting. Schmidt is going to escape by plane!" Steve suddenly reminded them, pointing towards the end of the underground plaza.
There, a large transport aircraft was slowly starting up, accelerating towards the base's exit. It was obvious Red Skull was on board.
Howard said quickly, "Get in, I'll take you two there!"
Kyle and Steve didn't hesitate, leaping into the car one on each side. Howard floored the accelerator, and the car's engine roared as its speed surged towards the large aircraft.
"You have to win!" Carter clenched her fists with a hint of worry, watching their retreating figures until the car disappeared into the distance at the end of the underground plaza.
On the aircraft runway in the base's underground plaza.
The transport aircraft, with its thirty-meter-long gliding wings on both sides and a wide, elongated fuselage, was accelerating. Not far behind it, a car carrying three people was in hot pursuit at full speed.
"The plane is about to take off; we can't catch up at this speed!" Steve frowned, looking at the aircraft ahead with a worried expression.
Kyle, however, showed no concern. He glanced at Howard, who remained calm in the driver's seat, and urged him, "Stop holding back. Use whatever hidden Black Technology you have!"
"You figured it out again. It's a coincidence, but I did give this car a complete overhaul." Howard smiled and pressed a button under the steering wheel. The car's rear exhaust pipes immediately erupted with blue flames and a powerful jet propulsion.
The car, already exceeding a hundred kilometers per hour, suddenly tripled its speed. The strong wind pressure forced both Kyle and Steve to grip their seats tightly.
The distance between the car and the transport aircraft continued to shrink. When they were about ten meters away, the area ahead suddenly lit up with daylight, and the transport aircraft's wheels began to lift off the ground.
"The plane is taking off! Steve, get me up there first!"
Kyle said, standing up from the speeding car. Steve seemed to know what he was thinking, slightly crouching on the car seat and raising his shield diagonally with both hands.
"Here I go!" Kyle took a deep breath, stepped onto the circular shield, and leaped forward with all his might.
Steve also pushed the shield forward, adding momentum to the jump.
'Whoosh!'
Kyle leaped high, rapidly crossing ten meters of open air. Just before reaching the aircraft's fuselage, he firmly planted the longsword held in his left hand onto the transport plane's landing gear, securing himself.
"Kyle!" Steve shouted, then jumped across. Kyle promptly extended his right hand, grabbing Steve's arm and pulling him along as they took off with the transport plane.
On the base's runway.
Howard brought his speeding car to a halt just before the cliff. He gazed at the transport plane ascending into the sky, with the two figures standing by its wheels below. He softly said, "I hope you both succeed in this battle. When you return, we'll have a hearty drink together!"
More importantly, you must come back!
Before you continue
