"Alright, go think it over." Hiruzen Sarutobi waved his hand, signaling Shisui Uchiha to withdraw.
Shisui Uchiha walked out of the office, his mind already churning.
He wasn't stupid—he knew full well that Hiruzen Sarutobi was planning to move against the Uchiha Clan, and he clearly understood the pros and cons of this situation. But he was unwilling to betray the village.
The moment he left the Hokage Office, a dark shadow flashed past.
"Tell Danzo, this operation must be foolproof." Hiruzen Sarutobi said.
"Yes, sir." A voice came from the darkness.
At the Anbu, Danzo received Hiruzen Sarutobi's message and sank into deep thought.
After a long while, Danzo lifted his head: "Hmph, that guy's finally making a move on Shisui. Even if he's having me do the dirty work, that brat's Sharingan is still useful to me."
Then, Danzo said to the Anbu beside him: "Leave this to you. Remember, absolutely no one must know."
"Yes." That Anbu replied.
After that, Danzo gave a few more instructions and left the Anbu.
"Heh, let's see who dares to stop me this time." Danzo thought viciously to himself.
The Anbu members moved swiftly, chasing through the space.
"You... why are you coming after me!" Shisui Uchiha's face turned pale as he stared at the Anbu members before him.
These Anbu ninjas said nothing. Even though Shisui Uchiha was also an Anbu member, they only cared about executing their mission and completing it—nothing else mattered.
With a "shing," three kunai pierced straight through Shisui's left kneecap. Shisui dropped to one knee, blood gushing from the wound.
Shisui Uchiha gritted his teeth and didn't utter a sound.
The Anbu members coldly pulled out their kunai and turned away without a trace of mercy.
Just then, Itachi Uchiha arrived. Seeing Shisui Uchiha gravely wounded, he knew that without treatment, he would surely die. But at this moment, he was acting in his capacity as an Anbu member on a mission.
This was the dilemma Danzo had thrown at Itachi Uchiha—after all, Shisui Uchiha had once been his brother.
"Shisui, how are you?" Itachi Uchiha asked with concern.
Shisui Uchiha smiled: "Itachi, don't worry. Don't bother with me—I won't make it. Next, they'll be coming for you. Be careful."
At that moment, he handed something to Itachi Uchiha.
Itachi Uchiha frowned slightly, because a possibility crossed his mind, but something felt off.
Then, suddenly, Shisui Uchiha violently coughed up a mouthful of blood and collapsed.
Seeing this, Itachi Uchiha hurriedly caught Shisui Uchiha: "Shisui! Shisui! Wake up!"
Itachi Uchiha's calls didn't rouse Shisui Uchiha; instead, his condition worsened, his breath growing faint.
Shisui Uchiha's consciousness gradually blurred, and he murmured: "Itachi... I'm so tired."
"What did you say!" Itachi Uchiha shouted anxiously.
But his cries didn't wake Shisui Uchiha—they only deepened his unconsciousness.
"Shisui! Shisui!" Itachi Uchiha roared.
But he found he couldn't wake Shisui Uchiha at all, because Shisui's pupils were dilated, and his breath was gone.
Shisui Uchiha died before his eyes.
Shisui Uchiha's body was taken away by the Anbu.
Soon, the news reached the Uchiha Clan.
"What?! You said Shisui is dead?" Fugaku Uchiha roared in fury.
Shisui Uchiha was the genius of their Uchiha Clan, with rumors even calling him the undisputed candidate for the next clan leader.
Fugaku Uchiha had originally planned to wait for Shisui Uchiha to grow and lead the Uchiha Clan to rise.
But now Shisui Uchiha was dead?!
"It's Danzo. That old bastard Danzo did all of this!" Fugaku Uchiha growled under his breath.
But Fugaku Uchiha's rage only lasted half an hour. He quickly calmed down, realizing something was wrong.
"So the lingering troubles from the Nine-Tails' Rampage are finally surfacing, huh? The Hokage is finally making his move against us." Fugaku Uchiha muttered to himself.
"Clan leader, what do we do next?" a nearby Uchiha clansman asked.
Fugaku Uchiha said flatly: "First, notify the clan elders and elites. For now, we all stay within the clan grounds and don't go out."
"Yes, clan leader." The Uchiha clansman replied respectfully.
Fugaku Uchiha closed his eyes. He knew that the Uchiha Clan was about to face a storm of bloodshed.
Fugaku Uchiha didn't know whether the decision he was about to make was right or wrong, but he knew he had only one path left—he could no longer sit idly by.
He made up his mind. He would launch a coup.
"Back? Where's his body?" Danzo asked, looking at the Anbu members.
"The bodies have been brought back," the Anbu member replied.
"Good. Bring the bodies inside," Danzo ordered.
Soon, the Anbu dragged Shisui Uchiha's corpse into the room.
Seeing Shisui Uchiha's body, a smile curled at the corner of Danzo's mouth.
Danzo said, "This Sharingan belongs to me now!"
But when he saw Shisui Uchiha's eyes, he noticed something was off.
"No, why is there only one Sharingan!" Danzo frowned slightly.
"Whatever. No matter what, this eye is mine now!" Danzo muttered.
Then he ordered the Anbu members to dispose of Shisui Uchiha's corpse.
Inside the Hokage Office in Konoha.
Hiruzen Sarutobi had also received word from the Anbu.
"What will you do next—resist or submit?" Hiruzen Sarutobi pondered.
He knew the Uchiha Clan had to be eliminated, or else the threat would be too great.
Moreover, the people of Konoha had already lost trust in the Uchiha because of the Nine-Tails' Rampage. If the Uchiha Clan revolted now, the villagers would surely support his decision to wipe them out.
Having completed his mission, Itachi Uchiha wandered aimlessly through the streets of Konoha. The sun was setting, its warm light shining on everyone in the village.
Though everyone's faces bore happy, joyful smiles, Itachi Uchiha only felt a bone-deep chill!
Just moments ago, he had watched with his own eyes as his best friend leaped into the abyss before him. Shisui, having lost one eye—had his body been found by Konoha's people by now?
"Why... why must I bear all of this alone? Shisui's will, Father's mission, the Hokage's orders... the future of the Uchiha—how am I supposed to handle all of this..."
