Background / History

Itachi's earliest memories are shaped by war. As a child, he instinctively killed an injured Iwagakure shinobi, then became consumed by questions about war, death, and the purpose of life. His despair eventually drove him to jump from a cliff, but his survival instinct prevailed. Sasuke's birth later gave him a purpose: protecting his younger brother. 257

As the conflict between the Uchiha clan and Konoha worsened, Itachi became a double agent. He served as the clan's eyes within the village while also reporting to Konoha, hoping to prevent civil war. Return to Konoha

Itachi returns to Konoha with Kisame under the cover of an Akatsuki mission. His actual priorities are seeing Sasuke and warning Danzō not to move against him. He confronts Kakashi's group, reflects Kurenai's genjutsu, and avoids an indiscriminate battle among civilians. 120

He later draws Sasuke into Tsukuyomi, where the brothers speak honestly despite maintaining the appearance of hostility. Itachi accepts Sasuke's choice to seek Orochimaru's training and promises support if Sasuke encounters trouble. 123

Treatment and the Uchiha Brothers' Battle

Nanfeng determines that Itachi's untreated injuries and Mangekyō strain would leave him roughly three years to live. Rather than die to awaken Sasuke's Mangekyō, Itachi accepts Nanfeng's intervention and later receives continuing treatment. 125 184

At the Uchiha ancestral graveyard, Itachi fights Sasuke through genjutsu, taijutsu, Fire Release, Amaterasu, and Susanoo.
