Li Qingyi first appears at Yang Tianfeng's military camp under her “Young Master Li” identity while investigating a matter connected to the Pity Life Sect. 17 She encounters Wang Xuan after he destroys Zhou Laifu's altar and kills its Demon-Humans, then gives him a healing pill and a token that promises future aid in the Imperial Capital. 24

Wang Xuan's Imprisonment

After Wang Xuan kills Lu Qing and is imprisoned by Yang Tianfeng, Li Qingyi arrives by flying sword and orders his release. She invokes her authority as an Inspector, guarantees his innocence for three days, and assumes responsibility should further problems arise. 32 33

She reveals that Wang Xuan bears the Soul-Devouring Mark and explains that the Pity Life Sect intends to use him as a Human Pill. Her initial reason for protecting him is to use the sect's attempt to reclaim him to trace its lair. 33 34

Chillshadow Gulch Operation

Li Qingyi and Wang Xuan investigate the Pity Life Sect's underground altar network, obtain the Blood Demon Pearl, expose Xu Kui as a cult infiltrator, and discover that the sect's main base is in Chillshadow Gulch. 35 37 38

At Chillshadow Gulch, they are trapped in the Netherworld Soul Lock Formation by the Bewitching Envoy. Li Qingyi remains inside to confront the enemy while Wang Xuan is thrown out of the formation. 42 After the formation is broken, she protects the exhausted Wang Xuan, confronts the empowered Bewitching Envoy, and kills it with her Sword Pill. 47
