Ch. 21Great Ape Power

Rhode subdued Great Ape Aila until she was exhausted, hoping the ordeal would help her regain her senses, then used a Senzu bean to restore her after they returned to normal. After Aila flew back to West City, Rhode stayed in the Wasteland and began experimenting with his ki, searching for a new technique.

  • Rhode tried to awaken Great Ape Aila with his roars, then beat her until she was too exhausted to keep rampaging.
  • Rhode meditated while the weakening Blutz Waves caused him and Aila to revert from their Great Ape forms.
  • Rhode gave the exhausted Aila a Senzu bean, and she recovered enough to argue with him before agreeing to try the process again.
  • Aila flew back to West City to wash up and rest while Rhode continued meditating in the Wasteland.
  • Rhode watched the moon and experimented with his ki, discarding a sunlike burst before forming a sphere of ghastly White Light.

Ch. 22Where Are the Dragon Balls?

Rhode refined his Great Ape transformation and received Dr. Brief’s Dragon Radar and a Two-Star Ball. He gathered the remaining Dragon Balls, befriending Grandpa Gohan and the Ox-King along the way, and ended with all seven balls ready to summon Shenron.

  • Rhode made his ki glow with the artificial-moon light and transformed into his Great Ape Form, then returned to West City.
  • Dr. Brief gave Rhode the Dragon Radar and a Two-Star Ball, and Rhode used the radar to begin searching for the others.
  • Rhode found the Five-Star Ball and borrowed the Four-Star Ball from Grandpa Gohan at Mount Paozu.
  • Rhode collected the Six-Star Ball from a forest and the One-Star Ball from a bird’s nest on a cliff.
  • Rhode defeated the Ox-King to obtain the Seven-Star Ball, then shared a feast and eating contest with him and met the infant Chi-Chi.
  • Rhode gathered all seven Dragon Balls and prepared to summon Shenron.

Ch. 23Rhode's Wish

Rhode summoned Shenron and tested several wishes before asking for himself and Aila to gain the ability to survive in outer space. Shenron granted the wish and vanished, and Rhode intercepted the Dragon Balls as they scattered.

  • Rhode summoned Shenron before Aila, Dr. Brief, his wife, and Little Bulma.
  • Rhode's wishes for Super Instant Transmission and space survival for all Saiyans and their future descendants were rejected.
  • Aila suggested catching and eating Shenron, and Rhode agreed that he was curious about its taste.
  • Rhode limited his wish to granting himself and Aila the ability to survive in harsh environments such as outer space.
  • Shenron granted the wish and disappeared, and Rhode raced after the Dragon Balls before they could scatter away.

Ch. 24Aila: I Can One-Shot King Vegeta!

Rhode used Shenron's wish to gain the ability to survive in outer space, then returned the borrowed Dragon Balls and trained with Aila for several months. After surviving a brutal sparring session and recovering with Senzu Beans, Aila declared she could now defeat King Vegeta in one strike, while Rhode challenged her confidence.

  • Rhode collected the four Dragon Balls he had borrowed and explained that his wish had granted him the ability to survive in outer space.
  • Rhode returned the borrowed Dragon Balls to their owners, then resumed training with Aila in West City.
  • Rhode and Aila trained for several months, while Aila also learned ki control from Popo at the Lookout.
  • Rhode and Aila fought under fifty times gravity until they were gravely injured, then ate Senzu Beans and recovered.
  • Aila claimed she could now one-shot King Vegeta, and Rhode asked whether she thought she was very strong.

Ch. 25Power Level of Three

Rhode defeated Aila easily and revealed that his Power Level had surpassed thirty thousand as they prepared to travel to Planet Namek for its Dragon Balls and the Great Elder’s power-unlocking ability. After seeing Rhode’s controlled Power Level reading, Aila resolved to improve her own control while Dr. Brief agreed to modify their spaceship.

  • Aila attacked Rhode in anger, but he blocked her strike and knocked her down with an elbow.
  • Rhode told Aila that his Power Level was above thirty thousand and said they would soon travel to Planet Namek to gain strength.
  • Aila scanned Rhode and saw his displayed Power Level was three, then decided to train her control over her Great Ape power.
  • Rhode asked Dr. Brief to modify Hoi-Poi Capsules into wearable rings or bracelets and add a gravity device to the spaceship; Dr. Brief agreed to work on both requests.
  • Rhode left Dr. Brief and found Little Bulma watching him curiously in the courtyard.

Ch. 26Bulma Tramples the Prince?

Rhode played with young Bulma, and Aila unexpectedly grew fond of her and began teaching her martial arts. After several days, Dr. Brief finished modifying the spaceship, and the group was ready to leave for Planet Namek.

  • Rhode flew and played with Little Bulma, while Aila watched and decided to try spending time with her.
  • Aila pinched Little Bulma's cheeks, felt concern for her, and eventually agreed to play when Bulma clung to her leg.
  • Aila offered to teach Little Bulma martial arts so she could learn to fly, and Bulma eagerly began training.
  • Rhode returned, saw Aila training Bulma, and imagined Bulma someday defeating Vegeta.
  • Several days later, Dr. Brief finished modifying the spaceship, and it was time to set off for Planet Namek.

Ch. 27Space Pirates Attack

Rhode and Aila left Earth for Planet Namek, training aboard their spaceship as they traveled. When powerful, evil Auras approached and their ship came under fire, Aila identified the attackers as Space Pirates.

  • Rhode said goodbye to Dr. Brief, Mrs. Brief, and Little Bulma before leaving Earth with Aila.
  • After the spaceship entered space, Rhode and Aila trained under sixty times normal gravity and discussed the powerful fighters on Planet Namek.
  • The spaceship shook as several powerful, evil Auras approached, and Rhode warned Aila before going outside to investigate.
  • A High-Energy Beam attacked Rhode, and Aila identified the attackers as powerful Space Pirates.

Ch. 28Beyond-Visual-Range Strike

Rhode and Aila exchanged long-range fire with three Space Pirates, then Rhode prepared a Kamehameha as their ships closed in. The pirates mistook Rhode's Battle Suit for a sign of Frieza Force ties and decided to attack, but Panai spotted the White Light outside their ship.

  • Rhode ordered Aila to lock onto the Space Pirates' ship and fire the energy cannon, and she launched repeated shots.
  • The Space Pirates returned fire more fiercely, and Rhode intercepted their beams to protect the ship.
  • Rhode spotted the enemy vessel and began gathering ki to fire a Kamehameha.
  • Panai warned Pasta that someone on the other ship wore a Frieza Force Battle Suit, while Gaty detected two people with Power Levels of a few hundred and just over thirty thousand.
  • Pasta decided the pirates would charge in and kill them, but Panai pointed out the White Light outside their ship in terror.

Ch. 29This Is Too Damn Ruthless!

Rhode destroyed Pasta, Panai, and Gaty’s spaceship and then killed the stranded Space Pirates with a barrage of ki blasts. After Rhode and Aila continued on their way, the three pirates later spotted another spaceship and tried to attract its attention.

  • Pasta, Panai, and Gaty survived their ship’s destruction but found themselves stranded in interstellar space with dwindling spacesuit energy.
  • Pasta ordered his brothers to seize Rhode and Aila’s ship, but the pair attacked the pirates with a barrage of ki blasts.
  • Rhode stopped firing after sensing the Space Pirates’ Auras disappear, and Aila confirmed that the scan showed no signs of life.
  • Rhode and Aila continued their journey into another galaxy, leaving Pasta and his brothers behind.
  • Pasta, Panai, and Gaty struggled through space until another spaceship appeared, and they unleashed their Auras to attract its attention.

Ch. 30Nail's Power

Rhode and Aila arrived on Planet Namek and sought the Great Elder to borrow the Dragon Balls. Aila defeated Nail in a fight, and the Great Elder came out to hear Rhode’s request.

  • Rhode and Aila landed on Namek and flew toward the Great Elder’s residence after Aila sensed the planet’s strongest Aura.
  • Nail confronted the two Saiyans, and Aila challenged him to a fight while Rhode assured the Great Elder that they meant no harm.
  • The Great Elder allowed the fight to continue so Nail could gain combat experience, but Aila overwhelmed and knocked him into a crater.
  • Nail recovered and stood guard before Rhode and Aila until the Great Elder appeared and told him to stand down.
  • Rhode greeted the Great Elder and asked to borrow the Dragon Balls.

Ch. 31The Great Elder Who Saw into Hearts

Rhode and Aila asked the Great Elder to lend them the Dragon Balls, and he agreed after sensing that they meant no harm. As Nail went to gather the Dragon Balls, Rhode gave him a Senzu bean to heal his injuries.

  • The Great Elder agreed to lend Rhode and Aila the Dragon Balls after sensing their fading evil and lack of ill intent.
  • Aila questioned Rhode telepathically about whether he could handle the Great Elder, who revealed that he had heard their message.
  • The Great Elder instructed Nail to notify the village elders and bring the Dragon Balls.
  • Rhode stopped Nail and gave him a Senzu bean, which Nail ate after the Great Elder nodded.

Ch. 32Come Forth, Porunga!

Rhode and Aila arrived on Planet Namek, where Rhode discussed ki with the Great Elder and then used Porunga to obtain Super Instant Transmission for himself and Aila. The Great Elder said only one wish remained, leaving Rhode to choose what to ask for next.

  • Nail ate Rhode's Senzu bean, recovered from his injuries, and went to gather the Dragon Balls while Rhode and Aila met with the Great Elder.
  • Rhode and the Great Elder discussed ki and techniques, while Aila felt out of place and stopped asking questions.
  • Nail returned with the Dragon Balls, and the Great Elder explained that Porunga could grant up to three wishes.
  • The Great Elder summoned Porunga, and Rhode wished for Super Instant Transmission for himself and Aila, initially including travel across different times and spaces.
  • Porunga could not grant travel across different times and spaces, so Rhode revised his wish; Porunga granted the remaining Super Instant Transmission, and the Great Elder said only one wish remained.

Ch. 33The Kami Who Returned Home

Rhode used the final wish to obtain a portable Time Chamber, then brought Kami from Earth to Namek to meet the Great Elder and Nail. Rhode and Aila entered the chamber to train while Kami stayed behind to speak with his people.

  • The Great Elder explained that Rhode and Aila had used two wishes between them, leaving one wish for Rhode.
  • Rhode wished for a portable Time Chamber with controllable gravity and free entry and exit, and Porunga granted it.
  • After thanking the Great Elder, Rhode explained that he had already seen Dragon Balls and told him about Kami Piccolo on Earth.
  • Rhode used Instant Transmission to bring Kami from the Lookout to Namek, where Kami met the Great Elder and Nail.
  • Rhode opened the Time Chamber and entered with Aila, leaving Kami to talk with the Namekians.

Ch. 34Pirates on the Move

Rhode and Aila began training in the Time Chamber, where a year passed for every day outside. Meanwhile, Shimorekka recruited the stranded Pasta, Panai, and Gaty and set his sights on Planet Namek.

  • Rhode explored the Time Chamber with Aila, stocked its houses with supplies, and set a year as their initial training period.
  • The Great Elder told Kami about Planet Namek's history.

  • Pasta, Panai, and Gaty explained how Rhode had defeated them and warned Shimorekka that their opponent might have belonged to the Frieza Force.
  • Shimorekka made the trio members of the Saganbo Pirates and asked about their treasure and nearby inhabited planets.
  • After Pasta named Planet Namek as the closest inhabited planet, Shimorekka decided to go there despite Pasta's claim that it held no valuables.

Ch. 35This Time, There Won't Be Any Problems!

Shimorekka led his pirates to Planet Namek to plunder it, while the Great Elder warned the Namekians and prepared for the invasion. Rhode and Aila emerged from the Time Chamber as Shimorekka's group arrived, and Rhode destroyed their spaceship and equipment, leaving the pirates facing him.

  • Shimorekka dismissed Pasta's warnings about Planet Namek and led his group down to the planet.
  • The Great Elder sensed the evil Aliens, sent Nail to warn the clansmen, and told Kami to hide as the pirates approached.
  • Shimorekka and his group landed outside the Great Elder's residence, where Rhode and Aila emerged from the Time Chamber.
  • Rhode recognized familiar Auras among the pirates, destroyed their spaceship and technological devices, and confronted them.

Ch. 36Too Brutal!

Rhode destroyed the Space Pirates’ ship and communications, trapping them while Aila slaughtered their underlings and fought Shimorekka. As the battle continued, Rhode recognized the Ma Brothers and two members of the Saganbo Pirates among the onlookers.

  • Rhode destroyed the Space Pirates’ spaceship, Scouters, and communicators, leaving them unable to escape or call for help.

  • Rhode recognized three escaping figures as the Ma Brothers and identified the Bear-headed Fatty and Shimorekka as members of the Saganbo Pirates.

Ch. 37Destroying Enemies with a Wave of His Hand

Rhode questioned Yunba about the Saganbo Pirates, gauging Saganbo’s strength and learning that Seven-Three had not joined the crew. He killed Pasta and two other pirates, then turned to face Yunba.

  • Rhode assessed Yunba’s unstable but formidable power while Yunba hesitated to attack, frightened by Rhode’s earlier display.
  • Rhode questioned Yunba about Saganbo, Frieza, and King Cold, concluding that Saganbo was stronger than Rhode but not as powerful as he had feared.
  • Rhode asked Yunba about Seven-Three and inferred that Saganbo had not acquired him yet.
  • Rhode blocked Pasta and two other pirates as they tried to escape, then killed all three with an energy blast and two punches.
  • Rhode appeared before Yunba and told him that he was next.

Ch. 38Disappointing!

Rhode and Aila fought the Space Pirates Yunba and Shimorekka after Rhode had killed Pasta and two others. Rhode easily defeated and killed Yunba, while Aila continued battling Shimorekka until Rhode ordered her to finish him.

  • Yunba attacked Rhode, but Rhode blocked his blows and the two fought amid the destruction around the Great Elder's home.
  • Rhode sent Yunba away with Super Instant Transmission, and Aila took Shimorekka elsewhere to keep their fight from damaging the area.
  • The Great Elder and Kami watched from a distance and were shocked by how much Rhode and Aila's strength had grown.
  • Rhode overwhelmed Yunba, killed him, and destroyed his corpse with a Kikoho.
  • Aila kept fighting Shimorekka as both grew exhausted, and Rhode told her to finish him or let Rhode take over.

Ch. 39Frieza as the Target?

Aila killed Shimorekka after a fierce battle, then learned from Rhode that the Saganbo Pirates included opponents far stronger than she expected. Their discussion turned to Frieza, and Aila decided she wanted to attack him.

  • Aila defeated Shimorekka with a point-blank Kikoho and rejoined Rhode, battered but exhilarated by the battle.
  • Rhode gave Aila a Senzu bean and told her about Saganbo and the Saganbo Pirates.
  • Rhode said that even at full strength he might not be able to defeat Saganbo, surprising Aila.
  • Aila questioned Frieza's reputation, and Rhode explained that Frieza concealed vastly more power than his displayed Power Level of 530,000.
  • Aila argued that she could defeat Frieza in his hover chair, and Rhode agreed that they should test their strength against him.

Ch. 40Potential Unleashed

After defeating the Space Pirates, Rhode and Aila returned to the Great Elder, helped rebuild his home, and asked him to unlock their potential. Their strength increased substantially, and they left Namek to resume their journey through space.

  • Rhode and Aila returned to the Great Elder and Kami, who were relieved to see them safe.
  • Rhode explained that he had dealt with the pirates, apologized for the damage, and offered to help rebuild the Great Elder’s residence.
  • Rhode sent Kami back to Earth, and Namekians rebuilt the residence over the following week.
  • Rhode asked the Great Elder to unlock his and Aila’s potential, and the Great Elder warned that the increase would be limited.
