Background / History

A gifted sword cultivator, Long damaged his cultivation foundation in matters concerning Myriad Sword Pavilion. He spent years in seclusion healing while Shangguan Yi handled much of the sect’s business. News that Qin Lingyu and Chu Huangyue had joined the pavilion briefly raised his hopes; Qin Lingyu’s reported death dealt him another blow 76 147 158.

Long and the Grey-robed Elder discussed finding a successor as the sect’s position worsened. Long rejected Shangguan Yi, judging that neither his strength nor his ability was sufficient to support the entire pavilion. He instead took an interest in Yun Shu’s talent, comprehension and temperament 148 149.

After Yun Shu presented evidence of Qin Lingyu’s dealings with the Golden Cauldron Sect, Long entrusted him with the Sect Master’s Golden Seal and the pavilion’s restricted inheritances. Yun Shu began issuing orders in Long’s name while serving as a Deacon Disciple. Long cautioned him against openly removing Shangguan Yi, fearing that Shangguan might side with the Golden Cauldron Sect 159 161 162.

Long later stepped down for Yun Shu’s formal succession. He continued to involve himself in the pavilion’s defence, including its grand formation and emergency Teleportation Array. By the time two visiting Sect Masters addressed him as “Sect Master Long,” he identified himself instead as a reclusive Elder 263 311 333 338.

Appearance

Long initially appears as a handsome, dignified middle-aged man whose pallor betrays his poor health 147 158.

• He first appears in white robes, with an ethereal bearing more suggestive of a frail scholar than a sword cultivator 147.
• His hair later shows silver strands; by a subsequent meeting, it is silver, though his complexion has improved 214 338.
• At the Training Ground, he appears in a purple robe with a more commanding presence 200.

Personality

Long bears the pressure of leadership keenly and is willing to surrender the position so he can recover and the sect can gain a stronger leader. His confidence in Yun Shu rests not just on strength, but on assessments of his character and the prospect that he might lead the pavilion beyond its decline 148 161 162.

He is cautious about internal conflict: rather than provoke Shangguan Yi with an immediate public dismissal, he weighs the damage a defection could cause. He is also personally generous to Yun Shu, giving him resources from his own collection when he cannot draw freely on wealth held by the sect’s Elders 162 202.

Swordsmanship

• Long was regarded as a peerless Sword Path talent before his injuries 158.
• Even after his Immortal Path cultivation fell to Foundation Establishment, he considered his swordsmanship sufficient to make him much stronger than Shangguan Yi 148.
• He detects profound Sword Intent in Yun Shu despite Yun Shu’s use of the Breath Concealing Art 158.

Formation Control

• Long explains the function of the Sect Master’s Golden Seal and passes Yun Shu the methods for controlling the pavilion’s remaining grand formations. He advises Yun Shu to study Formation Arrays to use them effectively 162.
• He later uses the grand formation to hold out against a stronger Nascent Soul opponent, though its diminished state limits its protection 333.

• Sect Master’s Golden Seal — a symbol of office and a key to activating the pavilion’s grand formations; Long entrusts it to Yun Shu 161 162.
