"You're saying Planet Vegeta has been destroyed?"
After learning of Planet Vegeta's destruction, the Saiyan named Asa spoke with a trembling voice. The arrogance and defiance he'd shown before had vanished from his face.
Sephiria's cool gaze fell on him. "That's right. You have two choices. First, come with us. We'll take you to a planet where no one can find you. Second, stay here. We won't help you. Choose now."
"You won't hurt me?"
"That's right." Sephiria looked at him, a subtle glint of coldness flashing in her eyes.
If the Saiyan before them made the right choice, that was fine. But if he chose to stay, then to keep their information from leaking, Sephiria wouldn't let him live, no matter what.
After a while, Saiyan Asa thought it over and made his decision. "I'm willing to go with you," he said quietly.
"Wise choice."
Roland praised him. The kid knew how to read the room, at least, and had saved his own life.
He knew that Sephiria had actually been ready to kill Asa just moments ago. He couldn't help but marvel at how decisive she was when it came to killing. If it had been him, he might not have been so ruthless. He ought to learn from her in that regard.
"You made the right choice. There are only a few of us Saiyans left. We shouldn't suspect one another." Sephiria's face softened into a pleasant smile, without a trace of the icy aloofness she'd shown moments before. Roland glanced at her. You were planning to kill him just now, weren't you?
Sephiria smiled at Roland. He paused, then smiled back.
Asa smiled too and asked, "How are we going to leave? You came here in a spaceship too, didn't you...?"
"No need to go to all that trouble. A spacecraft would only reveal our whereabouts."
Then, with Asa leading them, Roland and Sephiria went to the place where Asa's spaceship had landed. There, they found the white Spherical Spacepod. Roland fired a Ki Blast into its cabin. With a thunderous roar, the Spherical Spacepod began burning from the inside, sending out a foul smell of scorched metal.
"Ah! You destroyed the spacecraft. How am I supposed to leave now?" Asa said anxiously.
"Don't worry. We have our own way."
Roland remained calm, his voice unruffled.
Asa looked at him in confusion. Roland gave him a mysterious smile, then grabbed him and began using the Transfer Technique. Sephiria naturally stepped closer. With a flash of light, the three of them vanished from the planet.
Of course, Roland didn't take Asa straight to Planet Frie. After several transfers, they landed on a planet not too far from Planet Frie.
It was a low-level planet called Planet Kasha. Aside from its abundance of wild animals, it had no valuable mineral resources, so it wasn't among the Frieza Force's targets for conquest.
Roland planned to gather all the Saiyans they found here and observe them for a while. Once he was sure they would all obey, he'd decide what to do next. After all, Saiyans were naturally rebellious, and Roland wasn't about to trust them so easily.
"Stay here for now. More Saiyans will be coming. Don't get into any fights."
"R-right."
Asa's face had gone pale. He hurriedly nodded, looking at Roland with awe.
Roland nodded to Sephiria. "Let's go to the next target."
Sephiria asked with concern, "Don't you need to rest?"
Roland shook his head and ate a Senzu Bean. "No. We're a little pressed for time."
Sephiria nodded and moved closer, letting Roland put an arm around her waist. Under the awed gaze of Saiyan Asa, they vanished in a streak of light.
On the next planet, Roland found their target: a female Saiyan just over four years old. Since she was still so young, she was no match for Roland and Sephiria. They used the same mix of threats and enticements as they had with Asa, and soon had her convinced to go to Planet Kasha.
In the days that followed, Roland and Sephiria continued jumping between planets, bringing back more and more Saiyans.
Of course, it didn't all go smoothly. They encountered plenty of resistance. Some Saiyans didn't believe a word Roland and the others said, while others believed them but refused to leave with them. Without exception, Sephiria dealt with all of them decisively.
As time passed, it became harder and harder to find the Saiyans scattered across the universe. Some were so far away that there was no point in searching for them; others were found only after the Frieza Force had already killed them.
On several occasions, Roland and the others even ran straight into members of the Frieza Force. The aliens tasked with hunting down the Saiyans generally had battle powers of around one or two thousand. Roland naturally couldn't contend with the more powerful ones, but with Sephiria protecting him, he wasn't hurt at all.
When they encountered aliens whose strength was closer to his own, Sephiria would first destroy their communicator, then let Roland train against them. He gained plenty of battle experience that way, which was an unexpected bonus.
About two months later, Roland stopped searching for Saiyans. By then, two hundred of them had gathered on Planet Kasha.
More than half of these Saiyans were underage children, and only sixty were adults.
Fortunately, the ratio of male to female Saiyans was fairly balanced, so continuing the Saiyan Bloodline was no longer a problem. Once they all grew up, assuming none of them were lost along the way, they could form around a hundred couples. If each couple had three or four children, the Saiyan population would slowly recover.
Roland had spent a considerable number of Senzu Beans searching for these Saiyans. Of the ten thousand he'd taken from Korin, only a little over five thousand remained. It had pained him for a long time.
But the effort would pay off. Once these Saiyans grew up, he'd be able to build a sizable force in the universe.
"It's a shame they're all low-class warriors. There are only ten with the potential to become mid-class warriors."
Roland looked at the two hundred or so Saiyans before him, feeling a little regretful. Only ten had the potential to become mid-class warriors, and among all the low- and mid-class warriors combined, even fewer had battle powers above one thousand—only five.
Compared to the Saiyan race at its peak, they were so weak they could hardly be considered a force at all.
Sephiria said, "Low-class warriors have always made up the majority of the Saiyans. Some are noncombatants who could never reach a battle power of one thousand in their entire lives. Finding ten with the potential to become mid-class warriors among the surviving members of our race is already quite good."
Hertz beamed. "That's right. With these people, at least the Saiyan Bloodline can continue."
It was a miserable thought. The once-mighty Saiyan race had now reached a point where even continuing their Bloodline required careful planning.
The new-book period is over, but a publishing contract still seems a long way off. This book has 2,700 saves, which should be pretty good without any official recommendations.
