The Self-Proclaimed Master's Theoretical Clownery: Borrowing the Immortal Herb Illustrated Record from Chrysanthemum Douluo!
A sharp glint flashed in Hu Liena's brown eyes, and her words immediately calmed Yan down.
"My sister is right, Yan. Even if you want revenge, shouldn't you first raise your strength to its peak?"
"We've just come out of seclusion. Why don't we first raise our Soul Power to its peak, then get our Second Spirit Rings tomorrow before going after that Lin Du?"
Seeing that Yan was already beginning to be persuaded, Xie Yue immediately followed up on his sister's words.
At last, Yan calmed down.
"Then I'll listen to you two. I'll first raise my strength to its peak. That brat has already returned to Spirit Hall anyway. No way he can escape."
The crimson patterns on Yan's body gradually dimmed, signaling that his emotions had stabilized.
Lin Du had no idea that Yan had already begun to hold a grudge against him. After returning to his room for a few hours of rest,
he called Qian Renxue and Dugu Yan over, asking her to take him to Spirit Hall's library.
"This is where Spirit Hall keeps its books. Many of the books inside are unique, out-of-print copies."
"They record many things that even commoners and the two great empires know nothing about. You know Yu Xiaogang, the one known as the theoretical Master of the Douluo Continent, right?"
"He only published that Ten Core Competencies of Martial Soul nonsense after reading the books in our Spirit Hall."
When Yu Xiaogang was mentioned, Qian Renxue's tone carried a hint of disdain.
Clearly, she did not see him as any sort of theoretical Master, but as a thief who casually plagiarized the knowledge found in Spirit Hall's collection.
"That is true. He's a piece of trash who hasn't even reached Soul Power Level 30. What experience could he possibly have to summarize the Ten Core Competencies of Martial Soul? He's nothing more than a clown seeking attention."
"Enough about that bad luck magnet. Xue'er, where are Spirit Hall's books on Herbs? I want to read that kind of book."
Lin Du's lips also curled into a mocking smile. After briefly commenting on Yu Xiaogang,
he felt thoroughly put off and changed the subject, asking Qian Renxue where the books that recorded information on Herbs were kept.
"In the southeast corner. I'll take you there."
At her words, Qian Renxue led Lin Du and Dugu Yan toward the southeast corner of the Library Hall.
With Qian Renxue and Dugu Yan's help, Lin Du spent more than two hours going through every book in the medicinal herb section, yet he never found the one he wanted.
"Looks like that book is Yue Guan's private collection. If I want to get it, I'll have to start with Yue Guan."
Lin Du frowned slightly as he returned the last book in his hand to its original place.
Seemingly noticing the expression on Lin Du's face,
Qian Renxue and Dugu Yan exchanged a glance, concern appearing on their faces.
"Lin Du, are you looking for some particularly important book?"
"Yes, but this isn't the place to discuss it. Let's head back first."
Lin Du nodded gently but did not explain much. After leaving those words behind, he took the two girls back to his room.
This happened to perfectly avoid the three members of the Golden Generation.
After returning to his room, Lin Du did not keep Qian Renxue and Dugu Yan waiting long.
"Xue'er, how is your relationship with Chrysanthemum Douluo, Yue Guan?"
"Chrysanthemum Douluo? It's neither particularly good nor particularly bad. No matter how much Mother dislikes me, I am still her child."
"So, he is still rather respectful toward me as the Pope's daughter."
Though Qian Renxue still had some confusion on her face, she immediately answered Lin Du's question.
"I see. I want to ask you for a favor."
"Chrysanthemum Douluo has a book called the Immortal Herb Illustrated Record. It records all kinds of rare and extraordinary Herbs."
"So I want to borrow it and take a look. I wonder if Xue'er can help me with this?"
Looking at Qian Renxue, Lin Du stated what he needed.
"No problem. Leave this to me. I'll help Lin Du borrow that book."
Qian Renxue did not hesitate in the slightest upon hearing this and immediately nodded in agreement.
"If he asks you anything, you don't need to answer him. Just tell him to come find me."
As though recalling something, Lin Du added another reminder.
"I understand. Don't worry, Lin Du. I guarantee I'll complete the mission."
Qian Renxue wore a serious expression as she nodded vigorously. Her golden hair rose and fell, making her look exceptionally adorable.
In a small village outside Spirit City,
inside a dilapidated temple that let in the wind,
Skinny Monkey, who had spent the day begging, walked in with half a cold, hard steamed bun.
Even though it was only for peace of mind,
he still used a crooked stick to block the broken temple's door.
After taking a deep breath and sucking back the snot that had nearly frozen into a drip,
Skinny Monkey sat in a corner of the temple, rubbing his palms together with the hard, dry bun clenched between his teeth.
He lifted his ragged, patched clothes and vigorously rubbed his limbs.
Only after rubbing them until they turned red and warm did he stop.
Skinny Monkey viciously bit into the hard bun, which was as tough as a brick. After thoroughly soaking it with saliva to soften it,
he finally forced it down. It took him a full half hour
before Skinny Monkey finally swallowed that half bun. He then picked up the broken bowl beside him and gulped down a bowl of icy cold water that made his teeth ache.
Only then did Skinny Monkey rub his belly, looking as if he were full from water.
People always thought about all sorts of nonsense after eating their fill, and Skinny Monkey was naturally no exception.
Amid the howling cold wind, he seemed to recall the days from less than half a month ago, when he had followed Young Master Guo and eaten and drunk well.
Unfortunately, those good days had been completely changed on the day of Martial Soul awakening.
First, Young Master Guo, whom he had seen as someone of high standing, had his Martial Soul crippled by Lin Du, a beggar of the same status as himself.
Then, the underlings who had once followed Guo Kai alongside him began to mysteriously disappear one after another.
Sensing that something was wrong, Skinny Monkey immediately left Spirit City and returned to living as a beggar.
"Fatty, Ergou, and the others..."
"They might already be dead. My life is harder now, but at least I still have it."
"If I'd known that Lin Du would turn his life around and rise like a dragon overnight, I would have clung to his thigh no matter what."
"Ah!"
The frustration and regret in his heart became a long sigh that escaped Skinny Monkey's mouth.
But things had already come to this, and regret was useless.
Skinny Monkey curled himself up as tightly as he could, then grabbed another handful of dry grass to cover himself, intending to endure this bleak, frigid night.
But at that moment, the broken temple door that he had blocked with a stick suddenly opened from outside.
The two creaking wooden doors slammed hard against the earthen walls with a loud bang, startling Skinny Monkey, who had been about to sleep, into sitting upright.
