Background / History

Chen Dahu grew up under the strict training of his father, Chen Dashan. From age ten, he trained before dawn in horse stance, wooden-post striking, weighted running, and other fundamentals; he had trained in martial arts for five years by the time he entered the academy. Despite this foundation, he considers his talent ordinary and was only at the early 1st Grade when he nearly failed the entrance assessment. 28

His father, a retired former leader of the Thunder Hunting Group, deliberately sent him to the academy's Regular Class rather than the better-resourced Genius Class. Chen Dashan believed that wilderness hardship, competition, and life-or-death combat build the “wildness” required of a real Martial Artist. 26 28

Before the academy entrance examination, Chen sought Lin Fan's help with his weak speed. Lin began teaching him Basic Footwork and its breathing rhythm, allowing Chen to run several laps before tiring instead of becoming breathless after one. 8 9

After becoming Lin Fan's roommate at Jiangnan Martial Arts Academy, Chen confided that he wanted to surpass the limits others predicted for him, rebuild his father's hunting group, and make Chen Dashan proud. Lin agreed to train him intensively. 28
