The Sacred Spirit was the first to react.
The ball of tentacles coiled within Gavin's cranial cavity suddenly contracted, then emitted a piercing psychic resonance. "No! Kill him, now! Destroy that metal block!"
Its voice was filled with terror, and the tiny suckers at the ends of its tentacles spasmed uncontrollably.
But the white-haired elders turned a deaf ear.
They exchanged glances, and there was even a trace of displeasure on their faces.
Destroy the metal block?
What a joke. They had put so much effort into obtaining that thing precisely so they could study the method of prolonging life contained within it.
In their eyes, Jack's shout had merely been the final struggle of a trapped beast. The metal block was isolated behind layers upon layers of protective barriers; they could not detect even a trace of energy fluctuation from it. How could it possibly still be connected to him?
"Lord Sacred Spirit, you are worrying too much." The leading elder waved a hand, his tone exceptionally stubborn. "That thing has already been completely cut off." Jack, however, smiled.
The indifferent male voice in his mind sounded again. Unlike its emotionless tone during every previous enhancement, this time, there was a distinct hint of amusement in it.
"Good."
Seeing that persuasion was useless, the Sacred Spirit suddenly curled into a ball. Its eight tentacles frantically retracted out of Gavin's cranial cavity, attempting to flee.
But the instant it had extended halfway out, it was pinned down by a sudden force.
That force was invisible and intangible, pressing its entire body inside Gavin's skull so firmly that it could not move.
At the same time, Gavin's body, which should have collapsed limply to the ground, did not fall.
His legs braced backward, and he stood steadily upright.
