Background / History

Sima Mu was among the tourists drawn into the Longchan Temple God's Taboo Game. He introduced himself to Lin Baici and Jin Yingzhen while searching the thatched cottage for supplies. At the time, he was armed with a kitchen knife and had his left arm wrapped and supported in a sling. 3

During the Peach Monster attack, he fought with a sickle and escaped through the Moon Gate immediately behind Lin Baici. 5 He later followed Lin's lead through the Meditation Room, Xiangji Kitchen, and the Dark Great Buddha's trials. Though initially quick to act, he became more cautious after Lin stopped him from lighting the blood-fueled lamp prematurely. 6 17

At Lotus Lake, Sima Mu joined Lin's boat with Jin Yingzhen, Hua Yueyu, Sister Xiao Li, Old Aunt, Zhang Ju, and Zhang Ju's daughter. He helped force Jiang Hong off the boat and was among the group that crossed to the island to gather flowers. 21

When Lin Baici stayed behind to confront the Dark Great Buddha, Sima Mu restrained Jin Yingzhen from rushing back into the hall. He was stunned when Lin emerged alive after defeating it. 23 After the group escaped, Sima Mu exchanged contact information with Lin and volunteered to bring Zhang Ju's orphaned daughter home. 24

Appearance

Sima Mu is a round-faced, slightly chubby man in his forties. His left arm was bandaged and carried in a sling during the Longchan Temple incident. 3

Personality

Sima Mu is talkative, impatient, and prone to anger. He reacts aggressively when ignored in the Meditation Room and is willing to threaten others with his sickle. 6 He can also be harsh toward slower survivors, criticizing Zhang Ju for delaying the group while she carried her child. 19

Despite his rough manner, he recognizes Lin Baici's judgment and courage. He deliberately kept several steps behind Lin while the latter carried the dangerous torch, praised Lin's careful thinking during the blood-lamp trial, and sought to maintain contact after escaping the ruins. 5 17 24 He also accepts responsibility when it matters, volunteering to care for Zhang Ju's daughter because he believed he had survived by following Lin. 24
