Background / Origin

The Gods are exiles from a destroyed homeland. After wandering through space, one of them discovered Blue Star and descended in Antarctica roughly thirty years before the present events, creating the first God's Ruins. Many Gods did not survive their interstellar journey intact; some arrived dying or already dead, becoming Divine Remains rather than active invaders. 1181

Humanity was able to develop God Hunters only because Divine Remains could be contained and exploited. Their fragments grant Divine Grace, while Meteorite Stones and other divine-energy resources strengthen living beings. This gave humans enough power to barely contend with the surviving Gods. 8 21 1181

The long-term threat remains unresolved: no one knows when a larger force of Gods may descend on Blue Star. Xia Hongmian considers such an arrival a potential end-of-humanity scenario. 1181

Gods and their remains radiate a mysterious high-level energy that can mutate nearby objects into God's Taboo Objects. The resulting Rule Pollution is unpredictable, and longer exposure generally increases the likelihood that an object will transform. 557 561

God's Ruins are marked by dark fog that disrupts electronic devices and contaminates ordinary life forms into Dead Meat Persons. The fog dissipates when the Divine Remains at its center are successfully contained. 440

Divine Power and Divine Grace

Gods wield Divine Power through Divine Graces. A living God's Divine Heart—its vital essence and energy source—allows its Graces to reach their full potential. When a God dies, that essence dissipates, leaving extracted Graces incomplete and weaker than they were in the God's possession. 707

Role in the Story

Gods are the source of the setting's central supernatural crisis. Their descent creates God's Ruins, Rule Pollution, Divine Remains, and God's Taboo Objects, forcing God Hunters and organizations such as the Kyushu Security Bureau to contain disasters and hunt Gods. 56 84 1181

For much of the story, knowledge of living Gods is restricted even within the God Hunter community. Xia Hongyao notes that personnel without sufficient clearance are instructed to flee immediately if they encounter one. 172

The concealment of their existence becomes increasingly untenable after multiple public incidents and God-related conflicts. Following the Head God's death, the God Hunter community recognizes that the secret of the Gods can no longer remain hidden. 902 931

Lin Baici's ability to devour Gods changes the balance between humans and the God race. By consuming Gods, he inherits their Divine Graces, Life Source Quality, and knowledge, eventually reaching a life level described as close to the God tier. 901 981 1121
