Ch. 163Practicing Magic Costs Money
Regulus settled at the Herb Garden to study twenty mature Mandrakes and gradually learned to draw out their magic. By the chapter’s end, he had begun extracting small amounts from several plants, while Agnes quietly supplied his meals.
- Regulus asked Agnes for an independent greenhouse and learned she could prepare Greenhouse No. 3 for his twenty Mandrakes.
- Regulus unlocked the greenhouse, put on Protective Earmuffs, and used Magic Perception to study the Mandrakes, but their resistance prevented him from making progress on the first day.
- Regulus returned the next morning and used Natural Magic Power to form a symbiotic relationship with a Mandrake, guiding out a drop of magic and understanding its power to undo the definition of a whole.
- Regulus began extracting magic on the third day, drawing two drops from one Mandrake by noon and three drops from another by evening.
- Agnes brought Regulus food and tea three times a day without questioning or interrupting his work.
