Background
Yu Xiaogang was born into the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan as Yu Yuanzhen's youngest son. Despite expectations that he would inherit a powerful martial soul, he awakened the mutated Three-Eyed Demon Fox and possessed only half a rank of innate soul power. He continued cultivating with clan resources, reaching level 29 before becoming unable to advance further. 10 40
Seeking a way to prove himself, Xiaogang left the clan and traveled across the continent to study martial souls. During his travels, he befriended Flender and later Liu Erlong; the three gained renown as the Golden Iron Triangle. Xiaogang and Liu Erlong eventually married, but he fled after learning that she was his cousin, leaving their relationship unresolved for nearly twenty years. 47
He later settled at Nuoding Academy, where he became known as Grandmaster for his martial-soul theories. His reputation was controversial: academy teachers and researchers from multiple factions dismissed his Ten Core Competencies and criticized his proposed development path for Tang San's Blue Silver Grass. 10 12
Appearance
Grandmaster is a middle-aged man with a short, flat-top haircut. He is later seen arriving at the Pope's Palace in ragged, foul-smelling travel clothes. 10 86
- Usually identified by his short hair and reserved demeanor.
- Carries practical supplies, including a dagger and a storage soul tool. 15 52
- His Three-Eyed Demon Fox manifests as a small, pig-like physical martial soul. 14
Personality
Grandmaster is earnest and patient as a teacher. He provides Tang San with food, explains foundational soul-master knowledge without belittling his lack of education, and personally accompanies him to obtain his first spirit ring. 12 13
He is intensely invested in building his reputation through theory and instruction. He sees Tang San as both a disciple and a means to validate his ideas, later taking credit for Tang San's successes despite many of those successes arising from Tang San's own abilities and opportunities. 41
Following the destruction of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan, Grandmaster becomes consumed by vengeance against Martial Soul Hall. He oversees relentless military training for the Heaven Dou Empire, to Liu Erlong's concern for his health. 121 126
Abilities & Skills
Three-Eyed Demon Fox Martial Soul
Grandmaster possesses the mutated Three-Eyed Demon Fox, a physical-form beast martial soul. Though he dislikes its appearance and unconventional attack method, he has learned to use it for combat and tracking. 14 15
- Its first spirit ability attacks through flatulence, an ability widely regarded as unconventional. 14
- Drove off wolves and defeated a ten-year spirit beast wolf in the Spirit Hunting Forest. 14 15
- Its attacks consume Grandmaster's spirit power; feeding it carrots restores its condition. 15
- Injury to the martial soul can transfer to Grandmaster, as shown when a Mandala Snake bit the fox. 15
- Its sense of smell was used to search the Sunset Forest for Tang San. 48
Martial Soul Theory
Grandmaster is a dedicated researcher and lecturer on martial souls, spirit rings, and soul-master development.
- Identified Tang San as a Twin Martial Soul holder from his Innate Full Soul Power and Blue Silver Grass martial soul. 10
- Formulated the Ten Core Competencies of Martial Soul and used them to persuade Tang San to become his disciple. 10
- Taught Tang San spirit classifications, cultivation basics, spirit-beast knowledge, and the process of absorbing spirit rings. 12 13 15
- Developed team-oriented spirit-ring recommendations, accurately anticipating Oscar's fourth spirit ability from the Pink Lady. 63
- His knowledge has notable gaps: he was unaware of the “soul shock” associated with ten-thousand-year spirit rings, and his early Blue Silver Grass plan was condemned by several researchers. 12 63
Golden Sacred Dragon Fusion Skill
Together with Flender and Liu Erlong, Grandmaster can perform a three-person Martial Soul Fusion Skill.
- The trio forms a triangular formation and combines their martial souls through “Sun Moon Radiance Golden Turn.” 50
- The Three-Eyed Demon Fox serves as the lead martial soul before transforming into the Golden Sacred Dragon. 50
- The Golden Sacred Dragon's pressure can offset Dugu Bo's Title Douluo aura, though it cannot defeat a Title Douluo outright. 50
Training and Strategy
At Shrek Academy, Grandmaster develops intensive training plans and combat strategies for the Shrek Seven Devils.
- Organized combat exercises, team battles, punishment runs, and physical conditioning. 41
- Helped Tang San understand and conceal the Eight Spider Lances as an External Spirit Bone. 41
- Taught Tang San the Mind Separation Control method, enabling him to reach Three Orifice Heart Control in one day. 66
- Directed Shrek's tournament strategy, including preserving Tang San as a decisive fighter and forfeiting individual matches to prepare for team battles. 83 89
