In the faint morning light, Xu Chang was already at the Training Ground when Lin Yin hurried over to him.
Looking at the mysterious-looking youth before him,
Xu Chang felt baffled.
"Senior Brother, I want to move, somewhere near the school. Do you know of any places?"
Lin Yin's face was pale, and he looked terribly nervous.
"Move? And move near the school? Why?"
Xu Chang looked surprised. He couldn't understand why Lin Yin, who usually did nothing but bury himself in training, had suddenly decided to move.
"Senior Brother, don't you know?"
Lin Yin's face was deathly pale, yet he looked at Xu Chang in feigned surprise.
"Know what?"
Xu Chang was still completely bewildered. Lin Yin had just started to explain when a commotion suddenly arose outside the Fist Manor courtyard.
Some disciples cried out in alarm. Others hurried toward the Inner Court, shouting "Martial Uncle Yun Kai" as they ran, looking as if the sky were falling.
At the commotion, Xu Chang furrowed his brows. Lin Yin's face remained pale as he quietly said, "Li Qianjiang... Senior Brother Li's body is on Sanyuan Street, not far from the Fist Manor."
"What!"
Though he and Li Qianjiang hadn't gotten along, Xu Chang couldn't help crying out in shock. He didn't ask for details. Instead, he hurriedly pulled Lin Yin along toward the crowd of disciples.
On the way, they ran into Yun Kai, who had just come out of the side rooms.
His expression was gloomy. As he passed, everyone in his path, Living Stakes and disciples alike, scattered, not daring to block his way.
Lin Yin and Xu Chang simply fell in behind Yun Kai, and together they headed outside the Fist Manor.
As soon as they stepped out, the sight before them made their hearts clench.
Several bailiffs in blue-black short jackets seemed to have been waiting there for some time. On the White Shroud laid at the entrance, scattered red marks stood out in a horrifying display.
Under the tense, resentful gazes of the disciples, Yun Kai stepped out from the crowd.
"Master Yun, since Li Qianjiang was a disciple of your school, I brought him here for you. Based on our initial investigation, he seems to have been killed by someone with Inner Strength—"
Before the Bailiff Leader could finish, Yun Kai raised a hand to stop him.
He didn't even respond to the Bailiff Leader first, instead striding forward and lifting the White Shroud himself.
No one dared to stop him. The bailiffs standing on either side tactfully stepped aside, while the Bailiff Leader folded his hands behind his back and waited silently with his eyes closed.
The Tiancong Kingdom was thriving in the martial arts. Even the local government offices had to show respect to martial arts schools and the experts of the Sects.
So the Bailiff Leader didn't take offense at Yun Kai's seemingly out-of-line behavior. He even let him examine the body on his own.
As the shroud was lifted, Yun Kai's gloomy expression shifted slightly. Behind him, the disciples who had craned their necks to look burst into an uproar.
Li Qianjiang's eyes were wide open, and blood seeped from his seven orifices. An indistinct Crimson Palm Print could be seen in the sunken part of his face.
"This..."
Looking at the palm print on the face, Yun Kai's gaze flickered. No one could tell what he was thinking. He said nothing and slowly covered the body again.
"Master Yun, if I'm not mistaken, your disciple was killed with a single palm strike. Can you tell what kind of palm technique it was?"
The Bailiff Leader, who had been standing silently with his eyes closed, couldn't help asking out of curiosity.
"I don't know..."
Yun Kai slowly folded his hands behind his back and gazed calmly at the distant street. No one knew what was on his mind.
Seeing that he couldn't get anything out of him, the Bailiff Leader looked helpless and simply cupped his hands.
"In that case, we'll leave your disciple in your care, Master Yun..."
With that, he waved his hand and led the bailiffs away.
The body lay motionless at the Fist Manor Entrance, a horrifying sight. The disciples who had just poured out of the school were thrown into another uproar.
Some were furious and shouted that they would find the killer. Others were pale with fear. Still others quietly asked where Li Qianjiang had gone the previous night.
Amid the crowd, Lin Yin glanced at Xu Chang, whose expression was just as grave, then fixed his gaze on Yun Kai, who stood silently beside the body, motionless and lost in thought.
The Bailiff Leader's question about the palm technique had made Lin Yin's heart pound.
Fortunately, the Second Master of Lingyun Martial Arts School hadn't said a thing.
Even so, Lin Yin remained on guard. Could Yun Kai, whose palm technique had reached perfection, really have failed to recognize it?
He had said nothing in front of the bailiffs only to avoid unsettling the disciples inside the school. Lin Yin couldn't afford to let his guard down.
"Xu Chang..."
Just as Lin Yin was mulling things over, Yun Kai suddenly spoke from beside the body and called Xu Chang over.
After a brief conversation, Lin Yin only dared to watch from the corner of his eye. He saw Yun Kai head back inside while Xu Chang directed two disciples to carry Li Qianjiang's body into the school.
All day long, a gloomy atmosphere hung over the entire Fist Manor.
Lin Yin kept practicing Cloud Palm in his usual secluded corner, as steadfast as ever. But unlike the forceful strikes of days past, his movements were somewhat sluggish, and his breathing seemed a little uneven.
As You Shi approached in the late afternoon, Xu Chang hurried back.
"Junior Brother Lin Yin, I've found a place for you." Xu Chang brought him good news as soon as they met.
Lin Yin's spirits lifted.
"Senior Brother, did you go out to find me a place?"
Lin Yin was happy, but also a little surprised. He was still looking for a place for him at a time like this? Was Senior Brother Xu being a little too nice?
But his doubts were soon dispelled.
"No. I went to console Li Qianjiang's family and handed his body over to them. As for finding a place, that's because I'm moving too."
Xu Chang's words left Lin Yin stunned again.
"You're moving too?"
"Not just me..."
Xu Chang's face was full of concern and doubt.
"It was the Master's arrangement. Starting this month, all the disciples officially enrolled in the school have to move near it, so you should start getting ready too."
"All the disciples are moving near the school?"
Lin Yin was taken aback. He had never expected this.
Just then, Xu Chang lowered his voice. "Your concern is justified. Things have been looking bad lately. The Master and the others had been thinking about this for a while; Junior Brother Li Qianjiang's death served as a warning bell for them."
"..."
Watching Xu Chang, who clearly didn't want to say more, Lin Yin thoughtfully nodded, but inwardly he breathed a sigh of relief.
Good. Very good...
No matter what, the more people there were, the more commotion there would be, and the better it would be for him.
Whether it was the school's investigation or Li Qinhu's suspicions, the situation was still an opportunity for Lin Yin.
Once his thoughts had settled, Lin Yin went back to practicing martial arts. Even though some people were already preparing to go home, he still wasn't willing to give up a moment of training.
