Background / History
Jiang Zhen originated from an era at least a thousand years before the main story. He recalls being an unfavored junior disciple whom others considered untalented; rather than acting rashly, he endured, cultivated in obscurity, and accumulated the strength that later made him a towering figure. 317 378
He was connected to the events surrounding the Rat's sealing. Jiang Zhen did not participate in the original sealing battle because he was too weak and risked having his power absorbed. The elders who performed the sealing later entrusted him with magic artifacts intended for the Rat's complete destruction should it escape. 377 379
The Demon Venerable identifies Jiang Zhen as someone once linked to the same lineage and the Demon Race, an association that fuels distrust among the cultivators. Jiang Zhen's later actions, however, repeatedly place him against the Demon Venerable and the Demon Race. 244 309 317
Personality
Jiang Zhen is blunt, impatient, and strongly independent. When others hesitate, he can become coldly dismissive, particularly toward those who doubt his ability while demanding his help. 226 303
His confidence stems from long experience rather than simple arrogance. After reaching a stalemate with He Qiandao, he seeks Jiang Lan's advice, reassesses his opponent's cunning, and accepts that strategy and cooperation may be necessary. 359
Despite his detached manner, Jiang Zhen becomes protective of his companions. He teaches them techniques suited to their individual physiques, gives tactical guidance in dangerous battles, and evacuates them when He Qiandao attempts self-destruction. 227 407 410
He also carries substantial guilt over past decisions and his underestimation of He Qiandao. This self-reflection drives him to remain involved in threats that he believes he helped create. 412 415
