History

The Dragon Slayer Tribe grew from a small Wasteland Guardian settlement into a community centered on Xingyan, whom its members called the Dragon Slayer Boss. After moving from the Great Sand Sea to the Ancient Forest, they built homes throughout the giant tree surrounding his nest. During one of his secluded evolutions, they expanded the nest, guarded its entrance despite frightening sounds from within, and brought him food 88 90.

The tribe adapted to forest life by fishing, gathering, and organizing patrols against small predators such as Jagras. It also established contact with the forest’s Bugtrappers, inviting them to the Great Appetite Festival; over time, some local Grimalkynes joined Xingyan’s territory 90 100 104 130. Its population reached roughly three to four thousand by Xingyan’s later inspection and at least twenty to thirty thousand years afterward 100 130.

Nether Energy subsequently changed the tribe. Blackfruit was the first Grimalkyne documented losing his original coat and growing blue-tinged fur; others followed. The transformed group called itself the Nether Crystal Grimalkynes and, for a time, lived separately while its new traits developed 151 153 165. Eventually, all members of the Dragon Slayer Tribe had become Nethermarked Grimalkynes 222.

Society and Culture

• Leadership: Shamans who understand dragon speech convey the dragons’ wishes. Warriors protect the tribe, while gatherers, cooks, and artisans supply it 93 100 222.
• Settlement: The tribe built suspended and branch-supported homes, a water-powered lift, and a heated stone tower to dry the humid forest settlement. Its later homes used crystallized wood 99 100 223.
• Great Appetite Festival: Grimalkynes prepare monster dishes for Xingyan. Those who made major contributions could celebrate near his nest, and cooks could earn his shed scales for dishes he enjoyed 106 108.
• Combat culture: Unlike ordinary Beastmen Race members who might flee from monsters, Dragon Slayer Tribe Grimalkynes often watch fights and sometimes become eager to join them. Hunters can hire their help 130.

Abilities & Skills

Dragon speech

• Gifted Grimalkynes can understand dragons well enough to serve as shamans and interpreters; the talent was rare even as the tribe grew 93 100.
• Chop Chop conveyed Wisdom Mirror Blade’s words to a hunter-led investigation party 132.

Nether Crystal traits

• Transformed Grimalkynes’ back fur can harden and fire when they sense danger or are harmed. Contact between transformed Grimalkynes does not trigger the same response 152.
• Blackfruit learned to control whether his crystalline fur fired and developed energy vision. His crystal-tipped tail resembled a blade, but he could not manipulate Nether Energy as freely as Wisdom Mirror Blade 152 153 162.
• Crystalline growths add weight: affected Grimalkynes lost some agility and jumping ability 153.
