Appearance

Xingyan’s body changes drastically with each evolution. By the time he becomes a Forbidden Species, his original Glavenus form is nearly unrecognizable; his eyes are the only clearly unchanged feature. 208

  • As a young Glavenus, he has a protruding jawbone, curved brow ridges, paired horns, and a polished Sword Tail. 4
  • His early rapid-growth form is unusually burly, with a double carapace layer that makes him resemble a knight in full plate armor while retaining surprising agility. 12
  • His evolved Sword Tail is a living, slender, double-edged weapon covered in smooth blue-green mirror-like Blade Scales. 46
  • After consuming Steel Dragon traits, his armor and Blade Scales become silvery-gray biological metal capable of molting and regenerating. 48
  • His Forbidden Species form has massive Wing Bone wings, crystallized horns swept back along his skull, streamlined armor, and symmetrical Nether Crystal growths. 190 205
  • Eight branching Wing Bones can continuously vent pale-blue Nether Energy. 190

Personality

Xingyan combines a Dragon Slayer’s battle instinct with human-derived intelligence and memories. He does not reject his predatory instincts; instead, he refines them through observation, traps, ambushes, and calculated risk assessment. 4 19 His appetite for meat, minerals, Life Energy, and useful traits is central to both his survival and his evolution. 8 32

He is initially distrustful of humans, especially because of his memories and awareness of the historical conflict between humans and monsters. Although he accepts instruction from the Sword Master and later cooperates with hunters, he remains unwilling to place blind trust in them. 11 33 36

Xingyan is fiercely protective of those he accepts as his own. He shields the Kulu-Ya-Ku brothers from Hunters, avenges them against the Great Jagras, and repeatedly acts to secure the Dragon Slayer Tribe’s safety. 11 17 18 His affection is often expressed through practical protection, gifts, training, or harsh lessons rather than tenderness. 36 93 101

As his power rises, he becomes increasingly proud, domineering, and ambitious. He ultimately treats the creation of a dragon kingdom as both a grand project and a source of amusement, while retaining a strong desire to continue evolving beyond every limit. 142 220 229

Abilities & Skills

Selective Evolution and Stomach Sack

Xingyan possesses a unique digestive system that completely absorbs what he consumes and allows him to selectively evolve useful traits from prey, minerals, and Elder Dragons. 8 32

  • Digests consumed material without leaving ordinary biological waste. 8
  • Extracts useful traits such as agility, air sacs, muscles, scales, armor, energy organs, and bloodline potential. 8 32 45
  • Requires significant Life Energy for large-scale changes or powerful traits. 32
  • Ordinary monsters may need to be consumed in large quantities, while powerful monsters provide clearer and more potent evolutionary material. 38
  • Traits do not always manifest immediately; Steel Dragon storm-control potential remains latent after he consumes a horn without the complete required materials. 27
  • Anything absorbed into his body becomes wholly his, including transformed Light Dragon-type energy. 142

Sword Tail and Glavenus Swordsmanship

Xingyan’s primary weapon is his Sword Tail. Unlike ordinary Dragon Slayers, he favors tail attacks over biting, ramming, or brute-force body blows. 19

  • Uses refined magma from his Flame Sac to perform Red-hot Transformation, sharpening his tail and increasing its lethality. 4
  • Can spit high-temperature magma as an explosive ranged attack. 4
  • Learns from the Sword Master’s Long Sword instruction, then develops a distinct fighting style suited to his own anatomy. 35 40
  • Uses Life Energy to harden and sharpen his Sword Tail during combat. 40
  • Employs an Iai technique to finish fleeing opponents. 37
  • His evolved tail’s Blade Scales can vibrate at high frequency, allowing it to cut stone with minimal motion. 46
  • Heat expelled through tail vents can power a jet-assisted slash. 46
  • High-frequency cutting consumes considerable Life Energy and creates intense heat; obstructed tail vents were once a potentially fatal weakness. 46

Blade Scales and Regenerative Armor

After consuming Seregios traits, Xingyan replaces his Air Sac Carapace with thicker, heavier Blade Scales. 45

  • Blade Scales can function as armor when consciously controlled. 45
  • On impact, they can become directional explosive mines and inflict bleeding. 45
  • Spent or damaged scales can be shed and rapidly regenerated. 45 46
  • Steel Dragon-derived biological metal later merges his mineral layers into regenerative metallic armor and scales. 48

Mobility and Flight

Xingyan’s mobility evolves from abnormal ground agility into high-speed jet-assisted flight.

  • His early Air Sac Carapace increases buoyancy, allowing higher jumps, faster running, and deceptive movement despite his bulk. 12
  • His Dragon Slayer physique gives him powerful legs and agility disproportionate to his size. 19
  • He rebuilds his respiratory system with eighteen air sacs and a unidirectional airflow system to sustain flight and intense combat. 88
  • His second great evolution grants flight, though he initially struggles with weight, thrust, and controlling his angles. 90 93
  • Wing Bone propulsion later allows explosive charges and sustained aerial combat. 190 217
  • As a Forbidden Species, he can break the sound barrier and continuously optimize his body for lower air resistance. 204 205

Elemental and Energy Manipulation

Xingyan’s energy capabilities expand alongside his body.

  • Fire Attribute Energy — fuels magma attacks, Red-hot Transformation, combustion experiments, and fiery breath. 4 87
  • Life Energy — reinforces his Sword Tail, drives regeneration, and serves as the resource required for evolution. 40 121
  • Light Attribute Energy — awakened through his internal heat organ after his third major evolution. 136
  • Nether Energy — vents through his Wing Bones and can be compressed into unstable breath attacks that expand into smoke screens or explosions. 190 217
  • His Nether Energy can be suppressed by stronger Dragon Energy, forcing him to rely on attack quality, speed, and close-combat skill. 217

Physical Strength and Combat Endurance

Xingyan’s later evolutions give him the physical strength to overwhelm Elder Dragons and contend with Forbidden Species.

  • His body exceeds ordinary adult Dragon Slayer size and weight even before later Elder Dragon transformations. 31
  • His evolved forelimbs become as long as his hind legs and gain four-digit paws, including a thumb-like digit. 48
  • He can shatter a Rusty Steel Dragon’s horns, sever opponents’ tails, and pin Velkhana down without visible difficulty. 24 140
  • As a Forbidden Species, his raw defense becomes comparable to other ancient apex beings, making ordinary techniques largely ineffective against him. 220

  • Kulu-Ya-Ku brothers — Xingyan’s earliest companions. He protects them from Hunters, marks one with shell plates for safety, and avenges their mistreatment by killing the Great Jagras. 11 12 17 18
  • Dragon Slayer Tribe / Deters / Grimalkynes — Xingyan’s loyal tribe and later the foundation of his territory and kingdom. They maintain his lair, provide food, build around his nest, and regard him as their boss and king. 49 90 100
  • Bird Bro — An old companion who recognizes and supports Xingyan from his early life; Xingyan openly shows affection during their later reunion. 4 101
  • Sword Master — Hunter who teaches Xingyan foundational swordsmanship. Xingyan repays him by giving him seven pieces of carapace before leaving for Miasma Valley. 35 36
  • Grand Commander — Formerly a cautious observer of Dragon Slayer Boss, later accepts Xingyan’s leadership and cooperates with him in the new world order. 101 228
  • Sulfur Dragon Slayer — Initially a defeated rival who expresses mating interest; later becomes Xingyan’s swordsmanship student and is regarded by the Grimalkynes as his wife. 80 93
  • Wisdom Mirror Blade — Xingyan’s son. He challenges Xingyan for his nest, receives harsh swordsmanship training, and inherits part of Xingyan’s talent but not his full evolved body. 100 101
  • Brachydios brothers — Xingyan’s blood brothers and combat allies. They fight alongside him against Anorupatisu and protect him while he is unconscious. 77 97
  • Radiant Gold Dragon — A friend and ally who provides Xingyan a secluded place for his third evolution in exchange for his help with clothing designs. 123 129 136
  • Shattered Black Dragon — Fellow Forbidden Species and major rival. Xingyan battles him directly but chooses not to kill him to avoid devastating the New World. 217 220
  • Nergigante — A predatory competitor whose Elder Dragon hunting habits and hunger closely mirror Xingyan’s own. 63
