History

Founding and early expansion

Di Jun established the Demon Race in response to Donghua Daoist’s growing Donghua Immortal Palace. He simultaneously founded its Heavenly Court, named himself Heavenly Emperor, and appointed his brother Tai Yi Eastern Emperor. The proclamation resounded throughout the Great Desolation and drew golden dragons of merit, whose power was shared among Di Jun, Tai Yi, and Li Mo 22.

The Heavenly Court’s conflict with Donghua Immortal Palace escalated when Donghua’s forces attacked the Sun Star while all five Demon Emperors were away. Bai Ze and Bai Jiu led a costly defense until Tai Yi and the other emperors returned. The Demon Race’s counterattack nearly wiped out the invading forces 55 56. More demons joined the Heavenly Court afterward 58.

East Sea migration and alliances

After losing Sanwei Mountain territory in a skirmish with the Witch Clan, Di Jun moved the Demon Race from the Sun Star to Penglai and Yingzhou Islands in the East Sea. Their innate grand formations and cultivation conditions made the islands valuable bases, though the decision initially provoked opposition among demons 76 77 78. The faction continued to recruit and expand from the islands 79.

The Dragon Clan joined the Demon Race after Di Jun defeated the Ancestral Dragon and negotiated a merger 71 72. The Phoenix Clan later allied with it under Yuan Feng. When the Four Fierce Beasts threatened the Dragon Clan, Yuan Feng set aside the clans’ old grievances to help defend a Demon Race affiliate 98 101.

Di Jun’s later victory over Dong Wang Gong brought Donghua Immortal Palace’s fortune to the Demon Race. Hong Yun and Zhen Yuanzi also offered to join 113 114.

Witch–Demon conflict

At Changyang Mountain, the Demon Race fought the Witch Clan in a battle involving their armies and strongest figures. The Demon Race gained the advantage: in one account of the divided battlefield, roughly ninety percent of its army remained, compared with seventy percent of the Witch Clan’s elite force 124 128. Hong Jun intervened before the fighting could continue, declaring that the Demon Race would rule the heavens and the Witch Clan would govern the earth 128.

  • Tai Yi — Di Jun’s brother and Eastern Emperor 22.
  • Nuwa and Fu Xi — members of the five Demon Emperors alongside Di Jun, Tai Yi, and Li Mo 49 79.

  • Bai Ze — strategist and Demon Sage who commands demon soldiers; he also leads troops in battle 114 125.

  • The Blazing Sun Formation was used to defend the Sun Star during Donghua Immortal Palace’s surprise attack 55.
  • Spiritual Treasures were important to its strongest fighters. Outside observers identified at least three Innate Supreme Treasures in the Demon Race’s possession during the Changyang Mountain battle 124.
  • Against the Witch Clan, the demons faced a physical disadvantage: Bai Ze reported that effectively injuring Witch fighters generally required cultivation a realm higher than theirs 76.
  • Di Jun later spread the Sixteen-Foot Golden Body divine ability among the demons to improve their physiques. Bai Ze was among the first powerful figures shown cultivating it successfully 196 197.

Relationships

  • Dragon Clan — incorporated into the Demon Race following Di Jun’s confrontation and negotiations with the Ancestral Dragon 71 72.
  • Phoenix Clan — ally led by Yuan Feng 98 101.
