Background / History

Bai Ze encountered Li Mo roughly a century after Li Mo arrived in the Great Desolation. Unable to divine Li Mo's origins but recognizing his unusual fate, Bai Ze accepted him as his disciple despite Li Mo then being only an Earth Immortal 1.

He had only recently joined Di Jun and Tai Yi's faction when he brought Li Mo to the Sun God Palace. Bai Ze encouraged Li Mo to offer his thoughts on Hong Jun's lecture, hoping to give his disciple a chance to distinguish himself; Li Mo's insight instead drew Di Jun's direct interest 1 2. Bai Ze and Li Mo subsequently accompanied Di Jun to Purple Heaven Palace 3.

Before the Heavenly Court's establishment, Bai Ze gathered intelligence on Donghua Daoist's forces and had already begun recruiting races for Di Jun. The Qingqiu Fox Clan became the first race to pledge allegiance to the new Heavenly Court 22 23.

Bai Ze later accepted Bai Qianqian, the young daughter of Qingqiu's patriarch, as a second disciple and brought her to the Sun Star 21. As Li Mo rose from Bai Ze's disciple to Demon Emperor, Bai Ze remained openly proud of him while privately struggling with envy and concern that his disciple had surpassed him 44 46.

Personality

Bai Ze is ambitious on behalf of the Demon Race. He seeks Di Jun's recognition, values political influence, recruits capable cultivators, and gathers information before advocating military action 12 22 47.

He is intensely proud of Li Mo's talent and repeatedly presents Li Mo's achievements as proof of his own teaching. This pride often coexists with jealousy: Bai Ze recognizes that Li Mo's status and accomplishments have eclipsed his own 9 45 46.

Despite this vanity, he is protective and cautious. He defends Li Mo against Shang Yang, worries when Li Mo appears to endanger himself, and tries to limit casualties while fighting Demon Race soldiers manipulated by others 15 44 160.

“This is my disciple! Did you all see? This is my disciple, Bai Ze's disciple.” 45
