Background / History

Kais was the corrupt Supervisor of Granary Seven. He oversaw falsified ledgers concealing the disappearance of 27,000 tons of wheat, which he and his associates converted into high-energy fuel blocks for sale on the Hive City black market. When Rank 4 Scribe Rovi uncovered discrepancies, Kais pressured him to complete the fraudulent report and threatened to send him to the fertilizer plant if he refused. 1 2

He accepted Rovi’s revised accounts because they disguised the stolen wheat as religious expenditures and infrastructure maintenance. Although Kais rewarded Rovi with extra Corpse Starch, he recognized that the clerk’s competence made him a liability and began planning to eliminate him. 2 4

As Rovi gained the support of the Governor’s Mansion and Adeptus Mechanicus, Kais withdrew from open confrontation while waiting for him to fail. He later attempted to sabotage Rovi’s fermentation tanks by sending enforcers disguised as refugees; the attempt failed and further strengthened Rovi’s authority among the farm workers. 7 9

Kais ultimately collaborated with Chaos cultists who poisoned the water supply in an attempt to destroy Granary Seven’s production and remove Rovi. Faced with exposure and an enraged workforce, he signed a Wartime Emergency Authorization transferring administrative and military command to Rovi. 13 14

Rather than being executed, Kais was delivered to Priest Alpha of the Adeptus Mechanicus. Alpha removed his frontal lobe and preserved the portions of his brain responsible for calculation and logical processing, turning him into a Wetware Server for Granary Seven’s logistics network. 14 16

Before his conversion, Kais was an obese, greasy supervisor whose physical excess contrasted sharply with the deprivation of the granary’s laborers.
