Background / History

Alpha was the lead Tech-Priest in Granary Seven's Repair Workshop when Rovi Dane returned from meeting Governor Alicia. He reported that the repaired M36 Harvester was operating at 15% greater efficiency and had begun modifying two further units from Rovi's blueprints. Rovi then enlisted him to construct Deep Fermentation Tanks for processing bones, organs, and mutant carcasses into fertilizer. 7

His cooperation with Rovi quickly expanded from agricultural machinery to emergency defense. Alpha helped build the modified Steel Beast harvester from scrapped Chimera carriers, using three parallel engines and a destructive roller-and-vacuum harvesting assembly. Its performance led to the machine being declared a new STC revelation. 10

During Granary Seven's crisis, Alpha converted Supervisor Kase into the Kais Wetware Server, helped purify Warp contamination, and mobilized Workshop Seven to convert irrigation canals into defensive trenches. Rovi secured his cooperation by offering to submit the modified harvester schematics to Mars under Alpha's name. 16

A Digital Plague from a Warp Crystal later corrupted Alpha. After Rovi severed his network connection and revived him, Alpha revealed that he had retained awareness through a concealed Final Defense Protocol. He tested Rovi's sanity and willingness to preserve Mechanicus secrets before recognizing him as an “accomplice” rather than initiating self-destruction. 32 33

Appearance

Alpha is a heavily augmented Tech-Priest whose remaining human features are interwoven with visible Mechanicus cybernetics. He wears red Mechanicus robes and carries industrial tools as naturally as limbs. 16 35

  • Half of his face is covered by a metal mask; his remaining left hand is flesh-and-blood. 16
  • His cybernetic eye changes in color with operation and analysis, appearing deep blue during data processing and red during heightened activity. 16 35
  • Mechanical tentacles and later multiple servo-arms extend from his back, fitted with probes, cutters, and data interfaces. 16 47 109
  • One replacement tentacle was assembled from a discarded hydraulic rod, leaving it thicker and more cumbersome than the original. 58
  • His robes are frequently stained with Machine Oil from constant workshop work. 58 96

Personality

Alpha prioritizes logic, productivity, and preservation of the Imperial Tithe. He is capable of treating a human body as useful biomass without moral hesitation, as shown by his enthusiasm for converting Kase into a Wetware Server. 16

He initially struggles against Mechanicus doctrine whenever Rovi proposes unorthodox modifications. Alpha recognizes Warp-infused ammunition, living armor, and xenos-biological integration as heresy, but repeatedly yields when the resulting firepower or defensive value is demonstrably necessary. 29 58 74

His greatest weakness is an intense fascination with forbidden knowledge. Genestealer genetics, Warp-corroded metal, and the evolving Wall of Gluttony all draw him toward increasingly dangerous research. He remains aware of this danger and asks Rovi to kill him if corruption ever overcomes his loyalty. 44 54

Abilities & Skills

Mechanicus Engineering

Alpha is an experienced repair specialist capable of restoring, modifying, and repurposing industrial and military machinery.

  • Repaired and upgraded M36 Harvesters, increasing one unit's operating efficiency by 15%. 7
  • Modified the Steel Beast harvester and assisted Rovi in operating it during its proving run. 10
  • Repaired and tuned Heavy Logging Guns, while diagnosing their internal wear and predicted failure rate. 19
  • Designed practical protective suits using salvaged industrial gear, coolant systems, asbestos insulation, and altered respirators. 58
  • Built makeshift battle armor and modified Chimera vehicles with Chaos- and Tyranid-derived materials. 58

Data Analysis and Cybernetic Processing

Alpha's augmetics allow him to analyze contamination, machinery, biological samples, and operational data at high speed.

  • Detected active Warp contamination in a dead host and assessed the spread risk through ventilation ducts. 16
  • Monitored morale data after distribution of the Mixed Protein Formula, identifying a 30% increase in the laborers' emotional index and a temporary halt in brawling. 18
  • Conducted dissections of Genestealer hybrids and identified generational differences in their physiology. 47
  • Used Auspex readings to diagnose the Wall of Gluttony's imbalance and confirm its structural recovery after treatment. 66

Adeptus Mechanicus Rites and Technical Diplomacy

Alpha can frame practical engineering as Mechanicus-approved ritual and communicate within the priesthood's sacred protocols.

  • Performed purification rites and applied specialized chemical purification liquid against Warp-tainted blood. 16
  • Conducted Machine Spirit appeasement procedures with Sacred Oil, incense, and ritualized maintenance. 19
  • Used binary sacred language and a direct data probe connection to defend the Wall of Gluttony before Magos Magellan. 35
  • His doctrinal restrictions remain a limitation; he repeatedly identifies Rovi's modifications as violations before accepting them under battlefield necessity. 29 74

Final Defense Protocol

Even while affected by the Digital Plague, Alpha retained a concealed defensive routine that monitored Rovi and protected Mechanicus secrets.

  • Pretended to remain delirious after Rovi revived him in order to evaluate Rovi's sanity and corruption level. 33
  • Was prepared to dismember Rovi and self-destruct the basement power core if Rovi failed the evaluation. 33
  • Downgraded Rovi's threat level after judging him “Stable and Controllable,” then accepted him as an accomplice. 33

Bio-Forge and Living-Machine Research

Alpha became the primary technical investigator of the Wall of Gluttony, a bio-mechanical Chimera system balancing Nurgle-derived regeneration with Tyranid adaptation.

  • Identified the Wall's transformation from plague-corroded metal into a system capable of biological evolution. 44
  • Helped develop the theory that it functions as a Bio-Forge, using high-energy organic fuel to force competing biological forces into new alloys. 44
  • Proposed using fifth-generation Genestealer carapace genes to create living biological armor. 52
  • Monitors the Wall's mental state and agreed to fit it with a remote-controlled Melta Bomb as a final safeguard. 104
  • His research is constrained by the risk of Chaos corruption, Abominable Intelligence, and Mechanicus prosecution. 44 66 103

Equipment / Augmentations

  • Cybernetic eye — Performs data analysis and reflects changing operational states through its light patterns. 16 35
  • Mechanical tentacles / servo-arms — Used for diagnostics, repairs, dissection, data connections, and operating equipment. 16 47 109
  • Data probes and interfaces — Used to inspect machines and directly exchange data with other Tech-Priests. 35 74
  • Plasma cutter — Used during his Final Defense Protocol to threaten Rovi during the corruption test. 33
  • Sacred Oil and incense tools — Used for maintenance, rites of appeasement, and Mechanicus funerary rituals. 19 57

Relationships
