Doug had been with the team since yesterday, and practically every word out of his mouth had been barbed. It was enough to make anyone sick of him.
That was another reason he'd bounced around several teams over the past few years without ever earning a bigger role.
Nobody liked a teammate who put a barb in everything he said, and no coach wanted to use someone who undermined team unity.
At that moment, head coach De'Anthony had no one else to turn to.
All he could do was force a smile and say:
"Doug, if you can limit him, that'd be ideal."
De'Anthony didn't know how much Doug had left after two years away from the game. But even if he had only thirty percent of his peak ability left, he was still first-rate at causing trouble, stirring up drama, and getting under his opponents' skin.
With a hothead like Zion, if Doug managed to rile him up, the Kings would have a better chance of winning.
Doug heard the coach and gave a scornful smile:
"Give me minutes, and I'll make that guy wish he were dead."
De'Anthony nodded. "Don't worry. I'll give you a chance to prove yourself."
Of course, De'Anthony was only saying that. He didn't have high hopes.
You couldn't put your hopes of winning on a guy who hadn't played in two years and had an attitude to boot.
De'Anthony continued, "If we can limit Zion to some extent, then the other guys on the perimeter need to stick to their Three-point Shooters. If necessary, we should even foul them to disrupt their shooting rhythm. That'll give us a much better chance."
When you're guarding someone who can really shoot, just remember one thing: stick to him.
Stick to him like glue!
