The head coach stood at center court with his arms folded, sharply watching each player's condition. From time to time, he stepped in to offer a few reminders and correct the finer details of their movements.
By now, more and more fans were filling the stands at Staples Center. The seats, empty just a little while ago, were gradually turning purple and gold.
The DJ began playing rousing music, while highlights of the players flashed across the big screen, steadily building the energy in the arena.
When the music switched to the Lakers' theme song, the fans began humming along as one. Their voices rang out in unison, nearly loud enough to lift the roof off the arena.
In the courtside VIP section, celebrities from all walks of life took their seats one after another.
Oscar-winning actor Jack Nicholson was in his usual spot, wearing a shirt in Lakers colors. He chatted from time to time with the friends beside him, a signature smile on his face.
Several of Hollywood's hottest stars had come together as well. They wore sunglasses, but couldn't hide their excitement. Every now and then, they waved to the players, setting off shrieks from the fans around them.
A number of NBA legendary veterans had also been invited to watch the game.
They wore crisp suits.
Their eyes held hopes for the younger generation, as if they could see their own younger selves on the Finals court in these young players.
With thirty minutes remaining before tipoff, the arena lights suddenly went dark.
Only the spotlight at center court remained lit. Beams of light swept across the stands, drawing wave after wave of cheers.
