Background / History

Supporting Tang Yu’s Early Cultivation

Tang Tian is the biological father of Tang Yu and the Clear Sky Sect’s Sixth Elder. When Tang Yu seeks his help obtaining an Immortal Herb, he leaves his cultivation seclusion and accompanies his son to Sunset Forest, willing to pursue even a small chance of improving Tang Yu’s prospects 1 2.

At the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Eye, father and son harvest the mature rare herbs. When Dugu Bo contests their claim to the resources, Tang Tian sends him flying with one hammer blow and then overwhelms him using the Clear Sky Nine Styles 3 4 5.

Tang Tian continues supplying resources and helping secure Soul Rings. He brings Tang Yu ten-thousand-year Whale Rubber, discusses the physical and spiritual risks of an unusually old fourth Soul Ring, and locates an eighteen-thousand-year Thunderclap Dragon. He knocks the beast down with one strike so Tang Yu can finish it and absorb its ring 31 32.

Protecting the Sect’s Rising Heir

Tang Yu’s rapid growth turns Tang Tian’s reserved demeanor into open pride. The other elders notice that he increasingly smiles when discussing his son. Tang Yu’s emergence also gives the elder faction a promising successor candidate outside Tang Xiao and Tang Hao’s line 8 33 34.

The elders assign Tang Tian and the Seventh Elder, Blazing Sun Douluo, to protect Tang Yu secretly. They follow him to Heaven Dou Royal Academy, where Tang Tian also helps charge his Thunder Dragon Wings before a potentially dangerous meeting with the disguised Qian Renxue 37 38 40 41.

When Tang Hao intervenes to protect Tang San, Tang Tian confronts him alongside Blazing Sun Douluo and Dugu Bo. Tang Hao resorts to the Great Sumeru Hammer and escapes with Tang San and Xiao Wu 54 55.

Continental Trials and the City of Slaughter

Tang Tian and Blazing Sun Douluo secretly escort Tang Yu throughout his continental training journey. They eventually reveal their protection and report that Martial Soul Hall and the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect have sent assassins after him. Tang Tian supports his son’s decision to destroy the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect 116.

Near the City of Slaughter, the two elders encounter Tang Hao and Tang San. Their presence forces the pair to retreat, preventing Tang San from entering while Tang Yu is undergoing his own trials inside 136.

New Techniques and Later Battles

After Tang Yu becomes Sect Master, Tang Tian joins the elders granted access to the Great Sumeru Hammer manual. The group studies and practices with Tang Yu, whose explanations help them master the technique 152 153.

When Tang Yu returns from Sea God Island at level 80, Tang Tian accompanies him and the other elders into the Star Dou Great Forest. He intercepts the Sky Azure Bull Python’s attack and knocks it to the ground. The elders subsequently guard Tang Yu while he absorbs the captured beasts’ Soul Rings 161 162 164.

Following Tang Yu’s battle with Bibi Dong, Tang Tian carries his son out of the forest on his back and briefs him on Martial Soul Hall’s efforts to recruit affiliated sects and families. He is later present when Tang Yu returns to defend Skywater City 170 191.

Appearance

  • Height: Two meters 2.
  • Build: Burly and strongly built 2.
  • Bearing: Serious expression and an imposing aura; usually unsmiling when first introduced 2.

Personality

Tang Tian is a strict, demanding father whose stern manner conceals deep affection. He readily interrupts his own cultivation to help Tang Yu pursue resources, but also offers cautious advice: he initially recommends postponing challenges against Tang Long and Tang Hu and warns that an excessive Soul Ring age can cause fatal or crippling spiritual backlash 2 32.

He respects his son’s determination rather than insisting on obedience. Once Tang Yu explains his plans, Tang Tian accepts them and promises the elders’ full support. His pride becomes increasingly visible as Tang Yu advances, while threats against his son provoke immediate anger and intervention 8 32 33 54.
