Fang Yang led Na'er home by the hand.
The empty Living Room was silent. His mother, Lin Ximeng, was still teaching at Red Mountain Academy and had not returned yet.
"Na'er, this is our home," Fang Yang said softly.
Na'er stood timidly by the entrance, her large purple eyes anxiously taking in the unfamiliar surroundings.
"Hungry?" Fang Yang noticed how she kept Sneaking a Glance toward the kitchen, along with the faint rumbling from her stomach.
He gently ruffled Na'er's Silver Hair. "Na'er, go sit on the couch for a while. Brother will make you something tasty."
Na'er nodded obediently and sat down on the couch in the Living Room.
In the kitchen, Fang Yang stood on a small stool and skillfully tied on the floral apron his mother often used.
He first set a pot of water to boil, then took fresh eggs and greens from the refrigerator.
The spatula clinked crisply against the frying pan, accompanied by the sizzling of popping oil. Before long, two perfect fried eggs were ready.
The edges of the egg whites had formed golden, lacy rims, while the yolks trembled beneath their thin white membranes, still perfectly runny.
At the same time, the water in the pot had come to a boil. Fang Yang added noodles, followed by tender green vegetables.
The aroma of food quickly filled the air. Even Na'er, who had been sitting in the Living Room, was drawn over without realizing it, peeking from behind the doorframe.
"Almost ready." Fang Yang turned and smiled at Na'er, scooped the cooked noodles into a bowl, poured in the broth, and gently placed the fried eggs on top.
He carefully carried the bowl of noodles from the kitchen to the Dining Table in the Living Room, then thoughtfully pulled out a chair for Na'er. "Come, give it a try."
Na'er sat down and stared at the steaming noodles before swallowing hard, but she did not dare pick up her Chopsticks.
Seeing this, Fang Yang placed the Chopsticks in her hand and said softly, "Na'er, don't be afraid. This is your home now. From now on, you can tell Brother whatever you want to eat."
Na'er carefully picked up a piece of egg. The instant it entered her mouth, her purple eyes lit up.
She ate in small bites, but her pace grew faster and faster. She was clearly starving.
As she ate, she occasionally Sneaked a Glance at Fang Yang, who sat across from her. Her eyes shimmered with complicated emotions—gratitude, attachment, and something else she could not put into words.
Just then, the sound of a key turning came from the door.
Na'er jolted in fright, and her Chopsticks fell onto the table with a clatter. Fang Yang reassuringly patted her little hand. "Na'er, that's my Mom coming home. Don't be afraid."
When Lin Ximeng pushed open the door, this was what she saw: her son was gently wiping the mouth of a little girl with Silver Hair and purple eyes, while a half-eaten bowl of noodles sat on the Dining Table.
Her gaze swept back and forth between the two of them before finally settling on the girl.
"Yang'er, this is...?" Lin Ximeng's voice was filled with obvious confusion.
"Mom, it's like this. On my way home, I ran into Na'er..."
Hearing his mother Lin Ximeng's question, Fang Yang explained Na'er's situation to her.
"What? You ran into some hooligans?" Lin Ximeng's expression changed slightly. She hurried forward and checked Fang Yang over, from his arms to his back, afraid of missing even the slightest possible injury.
Only after confirming that Fang Yang was unharmed did Lin Ximeng let out a long sigh of relief, though her brows remained tightly furrowed. "You child, that was far too dangerous! What if something had happened..."
Her voice trembled slightly, and her lingering fear was plain to see.
"Mom, aren't I fine?" Fang Yang scratched his head and smiled, trying to ease his mother's worries.
Lin Ximeng shook her head helplessly before turning her attention to Na'er, who had been quietly eating her noodles.
Her voice was gentle. "Little girl, your name is Na'er, right? Can you tell Auntie where your family is?"
Na'er lowered her head, her silver bangs falling over her face and hiding her expression. Her voice was as soft as a mosquito's buzz. "I... don't have any family."
The words struck Lin Ximeng's heart like a heavy hammer!
"Then do you know how to contact your family? Or perhaps you can tell Auntie any clues about your background." Lin Ximeng continued asking in a gentle tone.
Na'er shook her head. This time, she did not even speak, only buried her little head even lower.
Seeing that she could not get anything out of her, Lin Ximeng changed the subject. "Then how old are you this year, Na'er? You can't possibly not know that too, right?"
She deliberately asked in a relaxed tone, hoping to help Na'er loosen up.
"Five and a half."
This time, Na'er finally raised her head, revealing a pair of crystal-clear eyes like purple gemstones. Her voice was clear and pleasant.
"Five and a half?!" Lin Ximeng sucked in a breath, and a wave of heartache instantly surged through her.
Such a young girl... who knew whether she had gotten lost or been abandoned...
Suppressing her emotions, she reached out and gently stroked Na'er's soft Silver Hair. "Stay here tonight. Tomorrow, Auntie will take you to the Administrator and see if we can find your relatives."
Lin Ximeng noticed Na'er's filthy clothes and said softly, "Now, how about Auntie takes you to have a hot bath? You'll feel much better after you clean up and change into fresh clothes."
Although she still had to teach at Red Mountain Academy tomorrow, Lin Ximeng planned to take leave and help Na'er figure out her background.
Na'er nodded obediently and took Lin Ximeng's outstretched hand, walking with her toward the bathroom.
He had worked so hard to bring Na'er home. Of course he had to keep her here. Otherwise, wouldn't he just be returning her to fate's arrangement and letting Tang Wulin take her away again...
Then Gu Yue Na would fall in love with Tang Wulin again. Wouldn't Fang Yang be nothing but a complete clown?
Tang Wulin had proper values and good character, but his biological father, Tang San...
That was truly hard to put into words. Tang San was always saying, "You have a death wish!"
The Endless Fire Domain had Elder Yao, but the God Realm had no Yu Xiaogang.
But opportunities belonged to those fated to receive them!
Fang Yang mulled over these thoughts in secret. Before long, Lin Ximeng emerged from the bathroom with Na'er.
When the freshly washed Na'er appeared in the Living Room, Fang Yang's eyes widened, and he could not help praising her. "Na'er, you're so pretty!"
Na'er wore Fang Yang's clothes. The oversized T-shirt hung down like a dress to her little knees, while the sleeves had been rolled up several times to reveal her slender wrists.
Having just finished her bath, she carried a faint scent of body wash. Her fair skin glowed with a healthy pink flush, and her Silver Hair draped smoothly over her shoulders, gleaming like pearls beneath the lights.
At Fang Yang's praise, Na'er's pretty face reddened slightly, and she shyly hid behind Lin Ximeng.
Hearing this, Lin Ximeng chuckled and shook her head. "Listen to you. You've embarrassed Na'er!"
Though she said that, the way Lin Ximeng Looked At Na'er was filled with affection. This little girl with Silver Hair and purple eyes truly was endearing.
A thought could not help flashing through her mind: if Na'er could become her daughter-in-law someday, what a wonderful thing that would be.
The thought made Lin Ximeng's gaze drift back and forth between the two children.
When she Looked At Fang Yang, her eyes held a little more expectation, hoping that her son would know to seize this fated bond.
Lin Ximeng gently took Na'er's hand. "Na'er, Auntie will take you to see your room."
Na'er nodded obediently, then secretly glanced back at Fang Yang once more before leaving.
