- A strong divine soul sharpens divine sense, the five senses, and perception. It can also improve control of magical artifacts and make the cultivator harder to affect with inner demons, soul searches, spirit seizure, and soul-based attacks 188.
- Divine soul power can be used to cast curses, but attempting one against a stronger or protected soul risks backlash. Severe backlash can scatter the caster’s own soul 188.
- For ordinary living beings, losing the physical body leaves the divine soul vulnerable. Soul ghosts and Heavenly Demons are noted as exceptions 188.
- A Heavenly Demon’s soul and body are inseparable; refining one into a Soul General draws the entire entity into the Soul Refining Banner rather than leaving a corpse 343.

Soul Curses
The scripture teaches techniques that apply divine soul power directly 188.
- Soul Detainment Curse — captures a being’s three souls and seven spirits without requiring the Soul Refining Banner 188.
- Soul Searching Curse — searches or erases memories; careful control reduces damage to the target’s soul 188.
- Soul Locking Curse — imprisons or controls a soul 188.
- Soul Extinguishing Curse — destroys a soul. Shen Mo uses it against a demonic shadow, but the strain leaves him pale and unsteady 188 208.
