When the school bell rang, Kagome practically sprang out of her seat.
Yuka was packing her bag. She looked up at Kagome, her eyes filled with a teasing smile.
"Kagome, why are you in such a hurry today? Got a date?"
"No!"
Kagome stuffed her textbooks into her bag, moving as fast as if she were fighting a war.
"It's just... I've got something to do."
"Oh my, you're blushing."
Eri lay across her desk, smiling at her.
"It's definitely a date!"
"I said it's not!"
Kagome slung her bag over her shoulder and hurried toward the classroom door.
Yuka called after her from behind.
"Even though we don't know which handsome guy you're going on a date with, Kagome..."
"Remember to tell us all the details tomorrow!"
Kagome did not look back, the tips of her ears so red they looked ready to bleed.

She ran down the stairs, through the corridor, and out the school gate.
Under the cherry blossom tree outside the gate stood a white figure.
Chiyo wore a thin light-gray jacket and black trousers, his long white hair drifting gently in the afternoon breeze.
He stood there with his head turned slightly, watching the occasional cars passing on the street.
Kagome's steps slowed.
She looked at Chiyo's back, and her heartbeat suddenly quickened.
So handsome...
Kagome took a deep breath and walked over.
"Chiyo."
Chiyo turned and looked at her.
"Why were you running so fast?"
"I was afraid you'd wait too long."
Kagome bent over, bracing both hands on her knees, and panted a few times.
"Let's go. I'll take you to that place."
